The Dispatcher position is an important and vital asset in the mission of the Arizona Game and Fish Department. This position provides for the first and primary link between the general public, agencies and private organizations that wish to contact Department personnel, request service or are in need of emergency response due to wildlife sightings, interactions, wildlife attacks or report past, present or ongoing fish and game violations. Shifts will vary depending on staffing needs and will include weekends and holidays.
Major duties include:
- Receives, coordinates and disseminates critical information (emergency and non-emergency) from various sources.
- Performs vehicle registration, driver license, stolen vehicle and wanted person checks by accessing the Arizona Criminal Justice Information Systems.
- Provides critical, statutorily mandated access and verifications services through the maintenance of central repository of criminal arrest warrants, citations, warnings and other court sanctioned injunctions.
- Receives information and broadcast calls for service to department personnel through the use of a statewide radio system that utilizes multiple channels and frequencies.
- Demonstrates a strong work ethic, committed to quality, customer service and attention to detail in order to ensure documents are handled, stored, secured and reviewed as errors may result in liabilities which may include, but not limited to; loss of life, wrongful arrest, financial liability against the department, and more.
- Responsible for coordinating with other state, and local agencies in handling injury and non-injury vehicle/boat accidents, missing person searches, and other human welfare incidents
- Assists U.S. Fish & Wildlife enforcement officers with ACJIS and NCIC inquiries and wildlife issues; enters, modifies, verifies, validates, retrieves and removes arrest warrant information from the NCIC/ACIC system
- Performs other duties as assigned
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSAs): |
The candidate will have knowledge and understanding of fundamental principles and processes for providing customer service and customer needs assessment, working knowledge of appropriate dispatching procedures, and use of communication equipment such as radio consoles, telephones, and computerized criminal justice warrant procedures, knowledge of Arizona geography and topography, as well as city, county and state multi jurisdictional boundaries and computerized mapping system. The candidate must be skilled to communicate clearly and effectively both orally and in writing, use of computer/keyboard devices to retrieve and enter information, effective decision making/problem solving based on a limited amount of information in crisis or emergency situations. The candidate must be able to maintain confidentiality of information, handle varying and unpredictable situations, including emergency and crisis situations, work independently and multi-task and prioritize tasks, establish, develop and maintain courteous and effective working relationships, and read, understand and interpret moderately difficult to complex written information (e.g. policies, procedures, rules, regulations, statutes, etc.). The ability to have attention to details is critical to this position. Candidates must be able to learn state game and fish laws, rules and regulations.
Selected candidate must possess Arizona Criminal Justice Information Systems Terminal Operator Certification within 6 months of hire date.

If this position requires driving or the use of a vehicle as an essential function of the job, then the following requirements apply. Any employee operating a motor vehicle on State business must possess and retain a current, valid class-appropriate driver’s license, complete all required training, and successfully pass all necessary driver’s license record checks. The license must be current, unexpired, and neither revoked or suspended. Employees who drive on state business are subject to driver’s license record checks, must maintain acceptable driving records, and must complete all required driver training. An employee who operates a personally owned vehicle on state business shall maintain the statutorily required liability insurance (see Arizona Administrative Code (A.A.C.) R2-10-207.11).
