The Arizona Department of Corrections, Rehabilitation & Reentry (ADCRR) is looking to fill the Accounting Specialist I position with our Arizona Correctional Industries (ACI) team. This position is responsible for preparing and reviewing invoice packets from vendors and institutions. Prepares month-end expense accruals, monthly and quarterly reports for management, including monthly reconciliations. Investigates and proposes solutions to problems with vendors and ACI Shop Supervisors. Processes invoices for payments in ACI systems, processes and updates vendor information in APP, researches and problem solves vendor phone calls, invoices, receivers, and purchase orders.

- Reviews invoices received from vendors and institutional business offices
- Reviews invoices sent to private sector contract vendors
- Inputs transfer claim packets into ACI's Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system and Arizona Financial Information System (AFIS), and generates management reports
- Researches and resolves issues relating to the general ledger, institutional business offices, and private sector contract vendors
- Researches, prepares, and analyzes financial data reports and prepares adjusting journal entries
- Reviews and corrects transfer claim packets for accuracy
- Attend mandatory trainings and staff meetings
- Drives on State business
- Performs other duties appropriate to the assignment

Knowledge of:
- Generally Accepted Accounting Principles
- Terminology, policy, and procedures
- Computers and applicable software, including Microsoft Office and Google
- Various software, including financial systems, spreadsheets, ERP, and AFIS
Skill in:
- Written and verbal/telephonic communications and etiquette
- Organization, time, and project management
Ability to:
- Lift/Carry approximately 5 lbs
- Push/Pull approximately 5 lbs
- Walk/Run approximately 1+ miles
- Reconcile, compute, and examine data
- Implement efficient office and workflow procedures
- Relate effectively with peers, supervisors, vendors, and management
- Work in a correctional environment with inmates
- Abide by numerous ADCRR policies, procedures, Personnel Rules, State and Federal Laws
- Formal education in accounting basic principles, procedures, mathematics, and English with at least three (3) or more years of working experience in an office accounting environment dealing in high-volume paper flow

Employment is contingent on the selected applicant passing a background investigation and a drug test.
If this position requires driving or the use of a vehicle as an essential function of the job, then the following requirements apply. Any employee operating a motor vehicle on State business must possess and retain a current, valid class-appropriate driver’s license, complete all required training, and successfully pass all necessary driver’s license record checks. The license must be current, unexpired, and neither revoked nor suspended. Employees who drive on state business are subject to driver’s license record checks, must maintain acceptable driving records, and must complete all required driver training. An employee who operates a personally owned vehicle on state business shall maintain the statutorily required liability insurance (see Arizona Administrative Code (A.A.C.) R2-10-207.11).

Positions in this classification participate in the Arizona State Retirement System (ASRS). Enrollment eligibility will become effective after 27 weeks of employment.
