This position will be responsible for the processing and validation of monthly and quarterly, fuel tax reports filed by Arizona licensed Suppliers and IFTA Carriers. The position must perform analyses of the monthly/quarterly reports for completeness, timeliness, and accuracy; will effectively communicate discrepancies to external stakeholders; will prepare taxpayer notices and calculate assessment amounts of penalties and interest for those suppliers not in compliance with timely payments; will perform ledger reconciliations.
This position may be available for remote work within Arizona (Two (2) days per week in the office/hoteling).

Processing and validation of monthly/quarterly supplier/restricted distributor and IFTA reports.
Process supplier and UST refunds, prepare ledger entries, transfers and Taxpayer Notifications.
Communicate with external stakeholders regarding general questions explaining discrepancies found on monthly reports.

Knowledge of:
• Principles of fiscal and governmental accounting.
• Title 28, Arizona Revised Statutes, Arizona Administrative Codes.
• Automated accounting systems used by the State and ADOT.
• Mainframe and PC accounting systems, including spreadsheets functions and databases.
Skill in/with:
• Effective, professional oral and written communication.
• Utilizing computer spreadsheets, databases, and other automated tools to complete work tasks efficiently and accurately.
• Reconciling complex accounts. Research and problem-solving skills.
• Organizational skills in prioritizing work activities and others to ensure that deadlines are met.

• Understand and use computers and accounting software for performing complex financial tasks.
One year governmental accounting experience equivalent to a Accounting Specialist 1; or completion of at least 12 semester hours of accounting and one year professional-level accounting experience.

This position requires driving or the use of a vehicle as an essential function of the job, and the following requirements apply. Any employee operating a motor vehicle on State business must possess and retain a current, valid class-appropriate driver’s license, complete all required training, and successfully pass all necessary driver’s license record checks. The license must be current, unexpired, and neither revoked nor suspended. Employees who drive on state business are subject to driver’s license record checks, must maintain acceptable driving records, and must complete all required driver training. An employee who operates a personally owned vehicle on state business shall maintain the statutorily required liability insurance (see Arizona Administrative Code (A.A.C.) R2-10-207.11).
