MAIL CLERK
Work Location: Papago Park Military Reservation (PPMR), Phoenix, AZ
Salary: Up to $16.7260 per hour (DOE)
Grade: 13

Under general supervision, the Mail Clerk receives, sorts and distributes U.S. Mail and inter-office correspondence and packages; provides courier service to several locations within the Phoenix Metropolitan area; operates postage meter machine, package tracking equipment and software; tracks all accountable and CLASSIFIED U.S. mail; provides postage usage reports monthly to mail room Supervisor. Orders mail supplies for the mail room and the mail machine. Provides customer service to employees and offices of the AZ ARNG and Department of Emergency and Military Affairs (DEMA). Actively participates in promoting a continuous improvement of workplace culture, through the use of teamwork, root cause problem solving, standard operating procedures, and review of performance metrics.

| Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSAs): |
Knowledge of:
• Understanding how weight, dimensions, and destination impact postage costs and using arithmetic for precise billing.
• Operational knowledge of postage meters, folding/inserting machines, and digital tracking systems.
• Ability to identify suspicious packages and adhere to safety guidelines for handling time-sensitive or classified materials.
Skilled in:
• Must display competent customer service skills, maintain effective interpersonal relationships and competent verbal communication skills; interacting clearly with employees and external vendors to resolve delivery issues or explain postal services
• Must be able to rapidly memorize organizational structures or department locations to ensure mail is routed to the correct personnel
• Must be able to manage and maintain digital or manual logs of incoming registered mail and tracking package signatures
• Must be competent and able in operating computer equipment, mail machinery and safely drive a vehicle
• Must be efficient with Time Management
Ability to:
• Read, write and communicate clearly
• Follow directions, work independently, and follow procedures established by management
• Receive, identify, sort mail and packages by mail codes
• Identify and read an address label, sort mail and parcels correctly, ensuring that mail and labels are correct and no mail is misfiled or lost
• Physically and interdependently, pick up packages of 40 lbs and move up to 60lbs
• Multitask and remain flexible with changes in duties and mail requirements
• Prioritize urgent deliveries and meet strict daily dispatch deadlines.
• Must be able to maintain inventory and keep the mail room stocked with essential supplies like envelopes, labels, and postage meter ink.
Desired qualifications include any combination of experience, education, and training that meets the knowledge, skills, and abilities as described. The preferred candidate will have prior experience but not absolutely necessary, as all skills and duties can be learned on the job.

• This position requires possession of and ability to retain a current, valid Arizona state-issued driver's license appropriate to the assignment. Employees who drive on state business are subject to driver's license record checks, must maintain acceptable driving records and must complete any required driver training (see Arizona Administrative Code R2-10-207.12.)
• In State travel required.
• Individual is required to pass a criminal background investigation.
• Must be a US citizen. Candidates for this position will be required to submit to a criminal background investigation as well as possess the ability to achieve a favorable Tier 3 investigation for the purpose of obtaining/maintaining a Secret clearance eligibility and Common Access Card (CAC).
