Job Summary:

This position is responsible for day to day operations of the EQS Get Ready Shop, interpret written vehicle/equipment specifications and evaluate compliance, product quality and overall workmanship in accordance with specifications and established ADOT standards. Provide accurate detailed documentation of any discrepancies or deficiencies and use automated fleet management programs to review shop automotive work orders, maintenance reports and other related data.

Job Duties:

Supervises technicians engaged in daily automotive maintenance operations. Evaluates work of subordinate staff by inspecting/operating vehicles after service/repairs are completed. Assign service projects to subordinate staff based on their individual expertise and the nature/extent of the project to be completed. Provide superior customer support.

Oversee subordinate research, collection and documentation of vehicle and equipment master data. Plan, coordinate, and evaluate the work of subordinate personnel involved in vehicle/equipment master data compilation and maintenance. Resolve problems or conflicts presented by subordinate personnel in the performance of daily duties.

Monitors workflow and tracks deadlines. Provide oversight and guidance to Shop Lead and Repair Technicians on daily work loads (scheduled/unscheduled) and maintenance priorities, to ensure that each are tasked in a manner that meets the standards of the monthly performance metrics and customer service standards. Review work orders in work finished status for accuracy and close timely.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSAs):

Knowledge of:

Repairing/overhauling/troubleshooting mechanical, electrical and hydraulic systems/components on medium-heavy duty vehicle/construction and off road equipment.
Operating principles of gasoline and diesel fueled internal combustion engines.
Vehicle and equipment power train system inspection.
Electrical/electronic controls.
Hydraulic systems inspection.
Diagnosis and repair procedures.
ADOT Environmental Policy and Procedures.
ADOT and Equipment Services Policies and Procedures.
Emission Control and Light Duty Fuel systems.
Equipment management principles including scheduled preventative maintenance and record keeping.

Skill in/with:

Estimating time and cost of repair maintenance work for a wide variety of automotive and heavy construction equipment.
Preventative maintenance inspections.
Estimating time and cost of PM work for a wide variety of automotive and heavy construction equipment.
Projecting parts, supplies and staffing needs based on past usage and anticipated organizational activity changes.
Scheduling/coordinating automotive/truck/heavy construction equipment service and repair to maximize utilization.
Management oriented record keeping and report preparation.
Written and oral communication.

Ability to:

Lead and motivate employees
Follow oral and written instructions
Interpret manufacturer's service manuals
Utilize a PC and PC programs such as MS Office and Google Workspace, including a Fleet Management System.
Establish and maintain effective working relationships.
Manage time effectively.
Pass a physical exam.
Lift 50 lbs from floor to waist and push/pull 90 lbs.

Selective Preference(s):

Journeyman-level experience must have been acquired in 1995 or after: Five-years of journeyman-level experience as a light/heavy class automotive technician and three years of experience as a Shop Lead Technician or Shop Foreman; or five-years of supervisory experience in the automotive maintenance field.

Pre-Employment Requirements:

EPA Section 609 Certification or the ability to obtain the certification within six months of employment.

This position requires driving or the use of a vehicle as an essential function of the job, and the following requirements apply. Any employee operating a motor vehicle on State business must possess and retain a current, valid class-appropriate driver’s license, complete all required training, and successfully pass all necessary driver’s license record checks. The license must be current, unexpired, and neither revoked nor suspended. Employees who drive on state business are subject to driver’s license record checks, must maintain acceptable driving records, and must complete all required driver training. An employee who operates a personally owned vehicle on state business shall maintain the statutorily required liability insurance (see Arizona Administrative Code (A.A.C.) R2-10-207.11).
