Job Summary/Basic Function

The Department of English at Middle Tennessee State University invites applicants for two full-time, temporary (non-tenurable) dual enrollment faculty positions (#712080 and #712090) at the rank of Lecturer. The start date for the appointments is August 1, 2024.

The successful candidates will teach sections of dual enrollment English at Sumner County area high schools as needed to satisfy a full-time teaching workload every year. The sections will be offered during the normal high school course schedule. The successful candidates must communicate regularly with the high school administration, the Director of General Education English, and the Department Chair at MTSU to coordinate planned course activities with the high school calendar.

Required Education

Applicants must meet at least one of the following three-degree requirements:
1. Master of Arts in any of the following disciplines: English, Linguistics, Rhetoric/Composition, Professional/Technical Writing
2. Master of Fine Arts in Creative Writing
3. Master of Arts in a closely related field with at least 18 hours of graduate coursework in classes with English, Linguistics, and Technical Writing.

Required Related Experience

Applicants must also have completed at least three (3) hours of graduate-level coursework focusing on writing pedagogy or demonstrate at least one (1) semester of experience teaching English at a university or college.

Other Desirables

Applicants with the following will receive special consideration: a PhD in English, Linguistics, Rhetoric/Composition, Professional/Technical Writing; at least one semester of experience teaching dual-enrollment English classes.
