Job Summary/Basic Function

The Department of Theatre and Dance at Middle Tennessee State University invites applicants for a full-time, tenure-track faculty position (#130160) at the rank of assistant or associate professor in Theatre History / Historiography. The start date for the position is August 1, 2025.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Instruction: Teach introductory and advanced courses in theatre history and historiography, as well as other departmental courses such as Introduction to Theatre.
  • Specialized Content: Ability to instruct on topics including world theatre, ethnicity or race in theatre, African-American theatre history, theatre for social change, dramaturgy, and other specialties.
  • Mentorship: Advise and mentor undergraduate students, fostering their academic and professional growth.
  • Leadership: Provide leadership within a large liberal arts training program with approximately 140 undergraduate majors.
  • Creative Activity: Engage in ongoing professional creative activity and scholarship.
  • Directing: Opportunity to direct one or more shows in the co-curricular season.

Required Education

A terminal degree in theatre or a closely related field is required by the appointment date.
