Job Summary/Basic Function
The Department of Recording Industry at Middle Tennessee State University invites applicants for a full-time, tenure-track faculty position (#145060) at the rank of assistant or associate professor. The start date for the position is August 1, 2026.
The successful candidate's primary responsibilities will include teaching selected in-person and online courses in the music business track at the undergraduate and graduate levels. The in-person courses may be offered on the MTSU campus or at another location. The courses cover music industry topics and legal topics including, but not limited to, music business, copyright law, basic contract law, and other legal issues related to the entertainment industry. Required Education
A doctor of jurisprudence, a terminal degree in law or legal studies, or a terminal degree in recording industry, or a closely related field is required by the appointment date.
In lieu of a JD or terminal degree in a listed field, a master's degree in law or legal studies, or a master's degree in business administration, recording industry or a closely related field with four (4) years of directly related industry experience, in addition to the five (5) years required of all applicants, will be considered.
Required Experience
Five (5) years of directly related music and entertainment industry experience is required.
Other Desirables
Applicants with the following will receive special consideration:
- Experience teaching college-level courses and curriculum development.
- Law practice experience related to copyright law, entertainment industry contracts, and legal issues in the entertainment industry.
- Evidence of strong entertainment industry relationships.
- Proficiency with presentation technology and online/remote course delivery tools.
