Job Summary/Basic Function

The ACEJMC-accredited School of Journalism and Strategic Media at Middle Tennessee State University invites applicants for a full-time, temporary (non-tenurable) faculty position (#144090) at the rank of lecturer. This is a one-year temporary appointment. The contract may be renewed annually based on available funding, demonstrated need, and satisfactory performance as assessed by annual evaluations. The appointment start date is August 1, 2026.

The successful candidate will help our growing school by teaching courses in interactive media and other media-related courses, as needed. Required Education

A master's degree in a communication-related field such as journalism, strategic communication, social media, visual communication, interactive media, mass communication, digital communication, media studies, digital media, strategic media, or another communication/mass communication-closely related/media field is required by the appointment date.

A bachelor's degree with two (2) years of demonstrated exceptional professional experience in journalism, public relations, advertising, communication, strategic communication, mass communication, organizational communication, media design, or other closely related fields may be considered in lieu of a master's degree.

Other Desirables

Applicants with the following will receive special consideration.

  • Professional industry experience related to social media, content strategy, digital media, digital communication, interactive media, or related fields.
  • Professional network of industry connections.
  • Proficiency with relevant industry standard software such as the Adobe Creative Suite of Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator, After Effects and Premiere, and Figma.
  • Experience in interactive media design, writing for online, mobile, and game platforms, social media content strategy, immersive and/or 360 video storytelling, strategic storytelling, audience research and analysis, or other areas within interactive media.
  • Knowledge of online content and media strategy for current and emerging technologies, theory and history of digital and interactive media, search engine optimization (SEO), generative AI, personal branding, and interactive media career preparation.
  • Ability to teach in other concentrations and degrees in the School of Journalism & Strategic Media.
  • Teaching in interactive media-related courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels or other educational experiences.
