Job Summary/Basic Function
The Department of Sociology at Middle Tennessee State University invites applicants for a full-time, temporary (non-tenurable) faculty position (#129050) in sociology at the rank of lecturer. This is a one-year temporary appointment. The contract may be renewed annually based on available funding, demonstrated need, and satisfactory performance as assessed by annual evaluations. The appointment start date is August 1, 2026.
Responsibilities include teaching five classes of 30-40 students each per semester. No committee or service work is expected. The successful candidate will be expected to teach general education courses, introductory sociology, and social problems. The successful candidate will be interested in contributing to a program that emphasizes social justice and will be able to work with a diverse student body, including many first-generation college students. A commitment to and evidence of quality undergraduate teaching are expected.

Required Education
A master's in sociology or a master's with eighteen (18) hours of graduate courses in sociology is required by the appointment date.
Other Desirables
Applicants with a PhD in sociology will receive special consideration. In addition, applicants who are qualified to teach courses in family violence, marriage and family, race and ethnicity, gender, social justice, social theory, and graduate classes in similar areas, including qualitative methods, will receive special consideration.
