Job Summary/Basic Function

The Department of Sociology and Anthropology at Middle Tennessee State University invites applicants for a full-time, temporary (non-tenurable) faculty position (#129150) at the rank of lecturer. This is a one-year temporary appointment. The contract may be renewed annually based on available funding, demonstrated need, and satisfactory performance as assessed by annual evaluations. The appointment start date is August 1, 2026.

The successful candidate will be a cultural anthropologist with four-field training and demonstrated excellence in and a commitment to undergraduate teaching. The successful candidate will have a 5/5 teaching load, including multiple on-ground and online sections of our undergraduate cultural anthropology general education course and additional new or existing undergraduate courses in their area of expertise. A willingness to work with a diverse student body that includes many first-generation college students, along with a demonstrated commitment to quality undergraduate teaching, is expected. Required Education

A master's in anthropology is required by the appointment date.

Other Desirables

Special consideration will be given to applicants with the following:

  • an area of expertise that will complement, rather than duplicate, existing faculty strengths, for example, geographic, methodological, or theoretical areas of research.
  • a PhD in anthropology.
  • expertise in cultural anthropology.
  • experience teaching undergraduate anthropology courses.
