Job Summary/Basic Function
The Department of Biology at Middle Tennessee State University invites applicants for a full-time, tenure-track faculty position (#103290) in Microbiology or Forensic Microbiology at the rank of assistant or associate professor. The start date for the position is August 1, 2024.
The successful candidate will be expected to conduct independent research and mentor students (undergraduate, MS, and PhD) at a level that will gain national and international recognition. Teaching responsibilities may include courses in General Biology, General Microbiology, and Biotechnology, and an opportunity to contribute to upper-level undergraduate and graduate-level courses in the appointee’s area of expertise. Ability to contribute to the department’s Forensic Science Program is desirable. The successful candidate will receive a competitive startup package and be expected to develop an externally funded research program at a level appropriate to mentor master's and doctoral graduate students.

Required Education
A terminal degree in microbiology or a closely related field is required by the appointment date.
Other Desirables
Applicants with postdoctoral experience, a strong publication record in peer-reviewed journals, and a level of grant or fellowship funding that reflects high productivity commensurate with the applicant’s career stage will receive special consideration.
