Job Summary/Basic Function
The Department of Health and Human Performance at Middle Tennessee State University invites applicants for a full-time, tenure-track faculty position (#145150) at the rank of assistant or associate professor. The start date for the position is August 1, 2024.
The successful candidate will be pivotal in enhancing the Exercise Science program by adding a strength and conditioning curriculum and research. Additionally, they will explore accreditation strategies for strength and conditioning through the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA).
Key responsibilities will include:
- Designing and delivering a strength and conditioning curriculum for undergraduate and graduate exercise science programs.
- Teaching a range of exercise science courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels.
- Establishing and maintaining a robust research agenda.
- Mentoring and guiding student research.
- Contributing to curriculum enhancement and development.
- Seeking and securing external funding opportunities.
- Engaging in service activities benefiting the university and the broader community.
Required Education
A terminal degree in exercise physiology, exercise science, or a closely related field is required.
Required License/Registration/Certification
Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist® (CSCS®) certification and good standing with the NSCA is required by the appointment date.
Other Desirables
Applicants with the following will receive special consideration:
- Proven success in implementing and overseeing academic or industry programs.
- Exceptional interpersonal and communication abilities.
- Relevant administrative experience, ideally within an academic setting, and proven leadership skills with a track record of effective team management.
- Proven industry experience as a strength and conditioning coach.
- College-level instructional experience.
- Experience in curriculum or program development.
- A strong track record of research, evidenced by publications and conference presentations.
- Experience in collaborating with other departments or disciplines, fostering a rounded approach to exercise science.
- Demonstrated ability to mentor undergraduate and graduate student research.
