Duties and Responsibilities:
• Provide classroom instruction in criminal justice courses
• Provide academic advising and tutoring in the subject of criminal justice
• Maintain appropriate office hours.
• Serve on departmental, division, and college committees.
• Assist with student orientation, registration, retention, and recruiting activities.
• Compile assessment data for the Criminal Justice Department for SACSCOC program assessment.
• Form relationships with area law enforcement agencies to aid in recruitment, provision of relevant programs and services, and career placement and development for program graduates.
• Create and manage an advisory committee formed from various college and community stakeholders interested in the field of criminal justice.
• Participate in assessment and evaluation of instruction and curriculum, and in the review and revision of teaching resources.
• Participate in professional development activities to remain current in the field of criminal justice and in pedagogy.
• Serve as faculty sponsor for the LDCC criminal justice student organization.
• Other duties as assigned.
Required Education:
The successful candidate must possess:
• A master’s degree or higher from a regionally accredited institution in a qualifying field such as criminal justice, criminology, or law.
• Alternately, an instructor may be credentialed under SACSCOC guidelines by holding a master’s degree or higher from a regionally accredited institution in another field and having completed a minimum of 18 graduate semester hours in a qualifying field.
• Professional experience in the field of law enforcement, juvenile justice, corrections, probation and parole, law, or a related field.
• Professional experience in teaching criminal justice at the college level is preferred.
• The ability to use varied instructional methods to accommodate different learning styles. Experience in online instruction is preferred.
• The ability to design, develop, evaluate, and improve instructional programs and curricula in the field of criminal justice.
• The ability to work cooperatively with other faculty and staff to support the mission of Louisiana Delta Community College and the Division of Liberal Arts.
• The ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written forms.
• The willingness to travel and/or to teach at various hours and locations as required.
