Duties and Responsibilities: 

• Maintain performance standards and pursue goals, objectives, and activities that promote the mission, vision and value statement of the College.

• Supplement students' understanding and command of course material.

• Assist students individually and/or in small groups in developing and applying appropriate learning strategies.

• Assist students with organizational skills, time management, and critical thinking in an effort to foster independent learning.

• Critique completed student work and suggest resource material as needed.

• Become proficient and assist students with utilization of computer resources, academic technology, and departmental software, such as Knewton, Microsoft Office, etc.

• Maintain documentation of tutoring sessions (student records, visit notes, material usage and returns) that will be used to generate reports.

• Maintain a thorough knowledge of the course material, as well as multiple instructional methodologies, to meet various student learning styles.

• Assist with coverage of the library circulation desk.

• Assist with coordinating and proctoring various tests.

• Work 29 hours per week in a flexible schedule format.

• Foster, demonstrate, and actively participate in a culture of mutual respect for students, guests, and co-workers from all backgrounds, perspectives and abilities. Communicate effectively with students, colleagues, and supervisors and utilize appropriate channels of communication within the college community concerning procedures and/or inquiries.

• Participate in professional development activities that enhance effectiveness (convocation, LCTCS conference, etc.).

• Represent the college in a manner that promotes a professional and positive image.

• Adhere to College and LCTCS policies.

• Embrace college culture.

• Complete all required assignments prior to deadlines (Fletcher/LCTCS trainings, etc.).

• Perform other duties as assigned.

 

Required Education: Completion of 9 college level credit hours in both Math and English with a GPA of 3.0 (on a 4.0 scale) in the discipline(s) (or acceptable alternatives).

 

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Ability to utilize computer technology to access data, maintain records, generate reports and communicate with others. Organizations skills and attention to detail, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines.

 

Preferred Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree

 

Preferred Experience: Experience teaching at the college level, or tutoring students in a college setting. Strong academic background in math and science. Strong presentation skills, problem solving skills, critical thinking skills. Ability to communicate effectively with diverse populations verbally and in writing. Fluency in another language (written and verbal) is highly desirable. Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships. Ability to work independently
