Duties and Responsibilities:
Work Habits – 40%
Career Services
• Demonstrates a high level of interpersonal skills to handle sensitive and confidential situations.
• Build partnerships with local high schools to provide career development guidance for high school students with emphasis on Career & Technical programs and conduct high school classroom presentations promoting the College’s Career and Technical programs and activities.
• Assist prospective and current students with career exploration activities and career assessments that promote Career and Technical Education and provide prospective and current students with information regarding the current job market and trends in Career and Technical Education career choices.
• Provide guidance to students regarding career choices.
• Develop and present seminars and workshops providing individual coaching regarding employment search strategies and methods, resume and interview preparation, and other professional development topics for students, alumni, and community members.
• Assist with the planning and hosting of departmental events that are held on all campus. Events include, but are not limited to, career fairs, transfer fairs, employer class presentations, and employer information sessions.
• Build and maintain relationships with employers, faculty, staff, and the community to provide students, alumni, and community members with employment opportunities.
Testing Services
• Perform administrative tasks in the testing center such as answering the phone and handling routine inquiries from internal and external customers.
• Perform the check-in/out process, verify student identification, and provide proper testing instructions.
• Assist with administering, monitoring, and proctoring college-wide testing. Tests include, but are not limited to, Accuplacer, CLEP, TEAS, CATS, Pearson Vue, Praxis, TOEFL, LA Contractors, Certiport, WorkKeys, Prometric Nurses’s Aid Test, and all other proctored exams.
Behavioral Standards – 40%
Career Services
• Collect data to monitor progress towards department goals, Maintain accurate records on programs and services provided to assist the Director with the compilation of data related to the effectiveness of the program and services provided.
• Advertise career services to employers, faculty, staff, community organizations and students.
• Advertise department events and services college-wide and in the community.
• Conduct presentations to train high school staff on the use of college resources to promote Career & Technical programs.
• Provide career and transfer advising to all students, alumni, and community members.
Testing Services
• Ensure that only permitted items are carried into the testing room and that remaining possessions are properly stored; Monitor examinees while testing to ensure that resting regulations are strictly followed.
• Maintain a comfortable, quiet, and secure testing environment; Adhere to departmental and/or external testing regulations, policies, and procedures before, during, and after test administration.
• Maintain sign-in logs and/or rosters of all tests administered and provide testing services to all students, alumni, and community members.
Institutional Support – 10%
• Represent the College in local high schools and conduct outreach efforts to promote Career & Technical programs.
• Predictable and reliable attendance is required to provide consistency and continuity of educational services.
• Assist prospective and current students with creating career plans that align with their life goals to promote retention and completion.
• Ability and endurance necessary to work the hours needed to complete the job.
Team Relations – 10%
• Assists the Director of Career and Testing Services with program development and strategic planning and monitoring priorities and progress towards the Department’s goals.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
• Works independently within a team on special and ongoing projects.
• Attendance at all mandatory meetings; Regular attendance.
• Maintain a variety of career resources.
Required Experience:
3 years’ experience working with diverse student populations or guiding individuals towards future opportunities.
3 years’ experience as a recruiter, talent specialist, or similar experience with reviewing job applications, posting positions, etc.
3 years’ experience networking with employers or community organizations.
2 years’ experience in public speaking or presenting information in public settings.
2 years’ experience with digital platforms such as Canvas, Lola, CANVA, or similar.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Language Skills: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals,
technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and
procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of
managers, clients, customers, and the general public. Must be able to demonstrate the proven abilities of
intellectual reasoning, power of persuasion, and consistent dedication to the position.
Mathematical Skills: Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical
interference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts
such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
Reasoning Ability: High Skills: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete
variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions
furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
Computer Skills: Knowledge of Microsoft Office software (Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, and Word). Ability to
learn to operate College-specific software and applications. Experience using BANNER or other student
information system such as Datatel, etc.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: Criminal Background Clearance.
Other Qualifications: Ability to work independently using effective communication skills with minimal supervision. Ability to provide information and materials related to career, transfer, and advising services for academic and technical students. Provide outstanding customer service to students and internal and external customers.

Bachelor’s degree
Preferred Experience:
5 years of career counseling or employment services preferred
