The Instructor & Theater Manager serves as both a full-time faculty member and operational collaborator for the Baton Rouge Community College theater. This dual role integrates teaching, creative production, and facility management to advance the College’s mission of fostering academic excellence and community engagement through the performing arts.
The position is responsible for teaching courses in theater arts, coordinating the day-to-day operations of the college theater, supporting events and productions, and strengthening academic and community programming. The individual in this role will work collaboratively with multiple units—including Events Management, Marketing and Public Relations, and Academic and Workforce divisions—to ensure the theater serves as a vibrant space for learning, cultural expression, and community connection.
Duties and Responsibilities: Instructional (45%)
• Teach a modified instructional load in theater arts, including but not limited to courses such as Introduction to Theatre, Stagecraft, Acting, Theater Appreciation, or Technical Theatre.
• Develop and update course curricula aligned with institutional standards and learning outcomes.
• Advise and mentor students pursuing degrees or certificates in the performing arts.
• Direct or oversee student performances and capstone projects as part of the instructional program.
• Participate in departmental and college committees, assessment activities, and shared governance.
• Engage in professional development and maintain currency in both teaching and industry practices.
Theater Management (35%)
• Oversee all technical operations, maintenance, and safety compliance of theater facilities and equipment.
• Coordinate the theater’s calendar, including academic productions, college events, and external rentals.
• Manage budgets, revenue generation, and financial reporting related to theater operations.
• Supervise student workers and volunteers supporting productions and events.
• Collaborate with academic departments, community partners, and external organizations to expand programming and partnerships.
• Collaborate with Events Management, Marketing, and Public Relations to plan, promote, and execute theater productions, rentals, and community events that enhance college visibility and engagement.
Institutional and Community Engagement (15%)
• Collaborate with Events Management to leverage the theater as a community and revenue-generating asset.
• Work with Marketing and Public Relations to promote theater initiatives and highlight student and community productions.
• Participate in recruitment, outreach, and public events to elevate BRCC’s performing arts profile.
• Foster BRCC’s values through performances, casting, and community representation.
Other Duties as Assigned (5%)
• Perform additional responsibilities as assigned by the Dean
Required Education: Masters in Theater or related field
Required Experience: • At least three (3) years of experience in live performance management, production, or educational theater.
• Demonstrated excellence in teaching or instructional design (may include adjunct or K–12 experience).
• Proficiency in stage and production technologies, lighting, sound, and safety procedures.

Required Licenses or Certifications:
Preferred Education: PhD in Theater or a related field
Preferred Experience: • Five (5) or more years of experience in theater management or college-level instruction.
• Experience developing partnerships with community organizations and regional arts groups.
• Familiarity with Ticketmaster, Eventbrite, or similar ticketing and event management systems.
• Evidence of successful collaboration between academic, operational, and community stakeholders.
