Duties and Responsibilities:
• Maintain performance standards and pursue goals, objectives, and activities that promote the mission, vision and value statement of the College.
• Provide individual and small-group tutoring across multiple subjects, with primary emphasis on general education courses including mathematics (College Algebra, Statistics, Contemporary Math), science, and English.
• Demonstrate proficiency in mathematics, including Statistics and Contemporary Math, and maintain working knowledge of science content such as Anatomy and Physiology, or the ability to learn course content sufficiently to support students.
• Develop and facilitate study pods: small, structured study groups supported by curated materials aligned with course content.
• Coordinate with faculty, student and staff tutors to match them with appropriate students based on subject matter and proficiency levels to meet students’ needs using ConexEd.
• Manage an expanded student caseload in support of the College's Quality Enhancement Plan (QEP), including proactive outreach to students referred for tutoring by faculty, advisors, and early alert processes, and follow-up on scheduling and participation.
• Track referrals and student engagement to support QEP reporting and continuous improvement.
• Supplement students' understanding and command of course material.
• Assist students individually and/or in small groups in developing and applying appropriate learning strategies.
• Assist students with organizational skills, time management, and critical thinking to foster independent learning.
• Curate, design, deliver, and collaborate with faculty to offer workshops and review sessions on various subjects to foster lifelong learning.
• Critique completed student work and suggest resource material as needed.
• Promote Tutoring Center services through creation of flyers and digital graphics using tools such as Canva.
• Plan and host pop-up events, tabling, and other outreach activities inside and outside the Tutoring Center to increase student awareness and usage, and present Tutoring Center services at new student orientations, open houses, and recruiting events.
• Maintain a welcoming, engaging Tutoring Center environment, including seasonal and thematic decorating.
• Assist in development and implementation of policies and procedures related to tutoring center operations.
• Become proficient and assist students with utilization of computer resources, academic technology, and departmental software, such as Knewton, Microsoft Office, etc.
• Maintain documentation of tutoring sessions and center usage (student records, visit notes, material usage, and returns) that will be used to generate reports.
• Maintain a thorough knowledge of the course material, as well as multiple instructional methodologies, to meet various student learning styles.
• Assist the Testing Center on occasion with proctoring exams for students receiving approved accommodations.
• Provide occasional support to library staff, including circulation desk coverage and assistance with library programming and events.
• Work 40 hours per week in a flexible schedule format, which may include occasional evening hours for events.
• Foster, demonstrate, and actively participate in a culture of mutual respect for students, guests, and co-workers from all backgrounds, perspectives and abilities. Communicate effectively with students, colleagues, and supervisors and utilize appropriate channels of communication within the college community concerning procedures and/or inquiries.
• Attend and participate in scheduled activities, which include graduation, open house/recruiting events as assigned, convocation, and required meetings. Share ideas and information, and work toward common department and College goals.
• Serve on college committees as a member or as chair. Serve on search committees.
• Participate in professional development activities that enhance effectiveness (convocation, LCTC conference, etc.).
• Represent the college in a manner that promotes a professional and positive image.
• Adhere to College and LCTC policies.
• Embrace college culture.
• Complete all required trainings prior to deadlines (Fletcher, LCTC, etc.).
• Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Education: An Associate’s Degree with five years experience or a Bachelor’s degree may substitute for the Associate’s Degree with five years experience.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Ability to utilize computer technology to access data, maintain records, generate reports and communicate with others. Organizational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines.
Preferred Experience: Experience teaching at the college level, or tutoring students in a college setting.
Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Strong presentation skills, problem solving skills, critical thinking skills. Ability to communicate effectively with diverse populations verbally and in writing. Fluency in another language (written and verbal) is highly desirable. Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships. Ability to work independently
