What You'll Do: 

• Teach credit and non-credit shipfitting and structural fitting courses; may also teach welding courses based on program needs.
• Deliver practical, industry-aligned instruction in fitting procedures, blueprint interpretation, layout, measuring, cutting, assembly, and safe equipment operation.
• Train students on safe use, care, storage, and housekeeping of tools, equipment, materials, and shop spaces.
• Inspect and evaluate fitting work for quality, alignment, strength, and adherence to applicable standards; maintain inspection documentation.
• Develop and maintain course syllabi, learning activities, assessments, and instructional materials aligned with approved curriculum and program outcomes.
• Use varied teaching and assessment methods to support different learning styles and maximize student engagement and success.
• Maintain accurate attendance, grades, student progress records, and required reporting.
• Provide tutoring, advising, mentoring, and timely communication to help students stay on track.
• Connect students with job opportunities, certifications, advanced education pathways, and employer resources.
• Build relationships with business and industry partners to support job placement and workforce-training opportunities.
• Ensure shop equipment and instructional technology remain safe, operational, and ready for instruction.
• Participate in advisory committees, recruitment and registration events, professional development, college service, and required meetings.

 

Required Qualifications: 

• High school diploma or GED.
• At least 36 months of professional experience in shipfitting, structural fitting, or a closely related field.
• Demonstrated ability to teach a range of structural fitting and shipfitting courses.
• Strong knowledge of safe shop practices, fitting procedures, tools, equipment, and quality expectations.
• Effective instructional, organizational, computer, verbal, and written communication skills.
• A student-centered approach and commitment to creating a respectful, inclusive learning environment.
• NCCER Core or OSHA certification preferred; candidates without certification must obtain it within 90 days of hire.
• Flexibility to work occasional early mornings, evenings, or weekends.

 

Preferred Qualifications: 

• Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) credential.
• Prior teaching experience at the high school or college level.
• Experience teaching welding or working in welding-related environments.
