The Social Media & Media Relations Manager/Content Creator is responsible for shaping and advancing Baton Rouge Community College’s (BRCC) social media presence and news media coverage. This role develops innovative strategies to increase social media followers, grow engagement, strengthen community trust, and position BRCC as a leader in higher education through compelling storytelling, media partnerships, and proactive communications.
Duties and Responsibilities: Social Media Strategy & Growth – 20%
• Increase and sustain growth of BRCC’s social media followers across all channels.
• Develop channel-specific strategies to target content uniquely for each platform.
• Create and maintain a content calendar that aligns with institutional priorities and campaigns.
• Stay current on industry trends and recommend new platforms or approaches.
Content Development & Storytelling – 20%
• Use social media as a storytelling platform to highlight BRCC’s students, faculty, staff, and community impact.
• Create engaging written, visual, and multimedia content tailored to platform audiences.
• Work with student workers/interns to expand creative reach and engagement.
Analytics & Performance Measurement – 10%
• Provide regular analytics reports to measure success of campaigns.
• Use data insights to refine strategies and maximize engagement.
• Ensure alignment of content with audience preferences and institutional goals.
Media Relations & Publicity – 20%
• Write and distribute press releases, media advisories, and news content.
• Build and maintain relationships with local and regional media outlets.
• Develop compelling media pitches to secure BRCC coverage in broadcast, print, and online platforms.
• Place BRCC officials in interviews, morning shows, and other media opportunities.
Event Promotion & Crisis Communications – 10%
• Organize press conferences, media events, and promotional opportunities as needed.
• Utilize social media for targeted advertising, marketing campaigns, and emergency communications.
• Monitor all channels for issues and respond quickly to questions or concerns.
Brand Engagement & Policy Oversight – 10%
• Ensure all channels are interactive, engaging, and consistent with BRCC’s brand.
• Enforce social media policy and maintain a secure database of all official accounts and credentials.
• Uphold best practices in compliance, accessibility, and institutional representation.
Innovation & Newsjacking – 5%
• Identify creative opportunities for timely coverage through newsjacking and trend-based campaigns.
• Position BRCC as a thought leader by leveraging innovative storytelling approaches.
5% Other duties as assigned
Required Education: Bachelor's degree in Journalism, Mass Communitions, Advertising, Public Relations, or related field.
Required Experience: At least 5 years of progressive experience in social media and media relations for a large, complex organization.
Training and education may be substituted for the required education or experience.
• Demonstrated expertise in:
• • Social media strategy, content development, and analytics.
• • Media relations, including writing press releases, securing coverage, and organizing press events.
• Proven ability to manage multiple platforms, campaigns, and deadlines simultaneously.
• Exceptional writing, editing, and verbal communication skills.

Required Licenses or Certifications:
Preferred Education: Master's degree in Journalism, Mass Communication, Advertising, Public Relations, or related field.
Preferred Experience: • 10+ years of progressive experience in social media and media relations for a large, complex organization.
• Experience in higher education or nonprofit sector communications.
• Proficiency with social media analytics tools, content management systems, and paid advertising platforms.
• Established network of media contacts within Baton Rouge and the Louisiana region.
