Starting Pay: $ 68,037.06 Pay Range Maximum $ 100,275.76

Departmental Mission Statement:

The Facilities Management and Capital Planning department provides for the management and maintenance of 62 state-owned courthouses, and 42 leased facilities located in ten counties of the Commonwealth. The Department is committed to administering effective property management, facility operations, facility renewal, and the delivery of quality customer service in support of the administration of justice throughout the Commonwealth.

Notes:

  • Shift: Monday-Friday, 6:00 am - 2:00 pm.
  • This position will be open for two weeks.
  • License in plumbing OR HVAC required
  • This position is considered essential personnel in certain emergencies and may be required to work outside of regularly scheduled hours, including staying late or coming in early.
  • This position is designated as a union position and is covered by the Collective Bargaining Agreement with O.P.E.I.U., Local 6.
  • All new hires must start at the entry-level rate for this role per the Collective Bargaining Agreement/MOA with OPEIU Local 6. Pay may advance within the salary band according to the CBA.

Position Summary: Installs, repairs, alters and maintains existing heating, venting and air conditioning (HVAC) or Plumbing equipment and systems. Maintains mechanical equipment and building infrastructure to ensure safety and uninterrupted facility operations. Uses central building insight system to track facility needs and ensure safe operations.

Supervision Received: Works under the direction of a Facilities Systems Supervisor.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

FOR HVAC:
Installs, repairs, alters and maintains existing heating, venting and air conditioning (HVAC) equipment and systems.
• Troubleshoots HVAC equipment and systems.
• Run standard tests to determine whether finished work meets specifications.
• Inspect facility to determine the need for maintenance and repair to HVAC equipment.
• Establish priorities and make recommendations concerning work activities.
• Maintains courthouse building and grounds.
• Provides preventative maintenance to equipment, machinery and tools.
FOR PLUMBING
• Install, repairs, and alters plumbing systems.
• Reads and interprets blueprints, sketches, instructions, or layouts to understand construction work to be done.
• Schedules installation, maintenance, and/or repair work by conferring with supervisors and other department personnel.
• Run standard tests to determine whether finished work meets specifications.
• Establish priorities and make recommendations concerning work activities.
• Provides preventative maintenance to equipment, machinery and tools.
• Repairs, installs and tests plumbing systems and equipment.
• Requests motors, parts and equipment as needed.
• Schedules and escorts contractors.
• Cooperates with Facilities systems personnel on plumbing systems and efficiency.
• Performs other duties as required.

Minimum Requirements: Education and Experience
• High School diploma or G.E.D. equivalency
• Four (4) years of related work experience

FOR HVAC:
Possession of a current and valid Massachusetts refrigeration license
• Possession of an EPA 608/CFC certification

FOR Plumbing:
• Possession of a current and valid Massachusetts journeyman plumber’s license issued by the Board of State Examiners of Plumbers and Gas Fitters

Equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered for meeting minimum qualifications.

Supervisory Responsibility: This position serves as a lead worker to others.

Working Conditions: Work is frequently performed in indoor, outdoor, warehouses or shops/facilities environments.

Work requires some exposure to extreme cold (below 32 degrees), moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals or substances and loud noises 85+ decibels such as heavy trucks, construction.

Physical Demands: This position requires medium work:

Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly having to move objects.
