Job Title: Dean of Institutional Research and Assessment

Summary of Position:    The Dean is responsible for providing leadership and administrative support for the institutional research and assessment functions of the university.


Duties and Responsibilities

  • Serve as the Academic Affairs liaison on all matters related to institutional research and assessment
  • Manage the daily operations of the Office of Institutional Research and Assessment
  • Cultivate collaborative relationships with university leaders in identifying institutional research and assessment needs and enhancing data-informed decision-making processes across the institution
  • Direct research and assessment initiatives that identify trends related to institutional strategic priorities
  • Collaborate with appropriate university committees and councils to develop and maintain policies/procedures related to institutional research and assessment
  • Maintain processes for collecting, analyzing, interpreting, and reporting essential data related to the institution’s environment, priorities, and performance to internal/external stakeholders and governmental agencies
  • Provide general oversight for all student and employee surveys to ensure they align with commonly accepted ethical standards, comply with institutional policies/procedures, and adequately protect research participants
  • Serve as the Academic Regulatory Compliance Officer of the institution and chair/co-chair of the Institutional Review Board (IRB) and the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC)
  • Cultivate collaborative relationships with curricular and cocurricular leaders to identify assessment-related needs and enhance continuous improvement processes across the institution
  • Lead professional development efforts associated with establishing and enhancing a culture of assessment and continuous improvement across the institution
  • Champion the institutional commitment to a centralized approach to assessment by providing administrative support to faculty and staff engaged in the work of assessment
  • Curate evidence file that demonstrates the institutional commitment to regular evaluation and continuous improvement, including program assessment reports, program review reports, and standardized templates for use across the institution
  • Serve as a resource to members of the University Assessment Council, Institutional Review Board, and other councils/committees engaged in institutional research and assessment work
  • Provide support for institutional accreditation and discipline-specific accreditation reporting cycles
  • Stay current on institutional research and assessment trends and make recommendations that enhance the services provided to students, faculty, and staff
  • Coordinate institutional research and assessment training events for faculty and staff
  • Actively engage in professional organizations and maintain intellectual vitality by way of scholarly output and professional presentations at conferences and in other venues
  • Serve on councils and committees as needed and represent the university and the Office of Institutional Research & Assessment at events on and off campus
  • Integrate emerging technologies and electronic resources that enhance institutional research and assessment
  • Manage the Office of Institutional Research & Assessment operational budget
  • Supervise employees who serve in the Office of Institutional Research & Assessment
  • Fulfill other duties as assigned

Qualifications: According to Indiana Wesleyan University employment policy all employees must possess a strong Christian commitment and adhere to the standards outlined in the IWU Community Lifestyle Statement.

Education

  • Master’s degree in a related discipline; doctorate preferred

Experience

  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience in higher education administration, preferably in the areas of either/both institutional research and/or assessment

Required Skills

  • Strong interpersonal communication skills (verbal, written, and nonverbal)
  • Able to develop and maintain collaborative relationships with diverse groups
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively lead a team towards the fulfillment of a vision
  • Demonstrated proficiency in using statistical, data-oriented software tools
  • Broad understanding of concepts related to data analytics
  • Knowledge of and demonstrated experience with best practices of qualitative and quantitative research design and methodology
  • Knowledge of and experience with conducting program assessment and program review in an educational context
  • Possess a broad general knowledge of various academic fields
  • Able to manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously and effectively
  • Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office suite (word processing, spreadsheets, email, powerpoint presentations, etc.) and web-based software (Sharepoint, Teams, SmartSheet, etc.)
  • Organized and able to maintain records and documents
  • Vibrant and personal relationship with Jesus Christ, and willing to sign a statement of faith in The Wesleyan Church tradition
