Summary of Position:    The Division of Modern Language, Literature & Communication at Indiana Wesleyan University seeks applications for an English faculty position on the residential Marion, Indiana campus. We seek a creative and engaging teacher-scholar who is dedicated to the ideals of liberal learning and an educational philosophy based on the centrality of Jesus Christ and the integration of faith and learning in instruction.

The position is for the 2025-2026 academic year, beginning July 1, 2025.

The ideal candidate should show evidence of personal faith in Jesus Christ, full agreement with the Wesleyan-Arminian theology, and commitment to liberal arts learning and the integration of Christian faith and learning.


Duties and Responsibilities

  • In addition to specialization(s), teaching assignments typically include English core courses as well as courses that fulfill the English/Writing requirements of the general education package 
  • Full-time faculty engage in student academic advising and mentor undergraduate majors 
  • The successful candidate is expected to render service at the program, divisional, school, college, and university level

Qualifications: According to Indiana Wesleyan University employment policy all employees must possess a strong Christian commitment and adhere to the standards outlined in the IWU Community Lifestyle Statement.

Education

  • Master’s degree in English or related field required. Terminal degree preferred
  • The ideal candidate will have a terminal degree in English or related field with specialization in American Studies and one or more of the following areas: Comparative Literature, Rhetoric/Composition, Linguistics, Creative Writing, ESL, Spanish, and Communication

Experience

  • Qualified candidates should have experience teaching at the undergraduate level in both traditional and online venues
  • Ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse communities and cultures

Required Skills

  • Excellence in knowledge and skills in relation to the appropriate field(s)
  • Demonstrated competence in teaching ability, along with an eagerness to improve
  • A strong testimony of personal faith and commitment to Christ is essential, along with an agreement to live according to the IWU Community Lifestyle Statement
  • An enthusiasm for the Wesleyan tradition and ability to function well within a community hosted by The Wesleyan Church
