Summary of Position:    The School of Nursing and Health Professions at Indiana Wesleyan University seeks applications for a full-time faculty member within the Department of Occupational Therapy on the residential Marion, Indiana campus. We seek an engaging-scholar committed to changing the world by developing students in character, scholarship and leadership.

The ideal candidate should show evidence of personal faith in Jesus Christ, full agreement with the Wesleyan-Arminian theology, and commitment to liberal arts learning and the integration of Christian faith and learning.

Start date will be fall 2025 pending funding.


Duties and Responsibilities

  • ACOTE Standard A.2.3: Core faculty who are occupational therapists possess the academic and experiential qualifications and backgrounds that are necessary to meet the program objectives and the mission of the institution. Core faculty can document expertise in their area of teaching responsibility and knowledge of the content delivery method. Core faculty are expected to contribute to ongoing curriculum design/improvement and program evaluation 
  • ACOTE Standard A.2.6: Core faculty who are occupational therapists are currently licensed in the state of Indiana 
  • ACOTE Standard A.2.7: All full-time teaching in the program must hold a doctoral degree awarded by an institution that is accredited by a USDE-recognized regional accrediting body. The doctoral degree is not limited to a doctorate in occupational therapy 
  • Select appropriate teaching and evaluations strategies to educate occupational therapy graduate students with a focus on occupation and evidence-based practice. Display behavior consistent with the American Occupational Therapy (AOTA) professional standards and ethics. 
  • Mentoring graduate research projects, advising students, and providing service to the department.
  • Participate in program, school and university committees, state and/or local community service. 

Qualifications: According to Indiana Wesleyan University employment policy all employees must possess a strong Christian commitment and adhere to the standards outlined in the IWU Community Lifestyle Statement.

Education

  • Terminal degree (PhD, EdD, OTD or equivalent in a field related to Occupational Therapy)
  • Must also be licensed or eligible for licensure as an Occupational Therapist in the state of Indiana and have a current NBCOT certification

Experience

  • A minimum of three (3) years clinical experience in occupational therapy is required
  • A commitment to teaching excellence is required.
  • A minimum of one (1) year of post-secondary teaching experience preferred

  • Demonstrates a mature personal faith in Jesus Christ and willingly embraces the theological and lifestyle commitments of the Wesleyan Church
  • Capable of exercising mature spiritual leadership in all aspects of teaching, scholarship, and service to the Occupational Therapy Doctoral (OTD) program
  • Possesses the interpersonal qualities and skills to work effectively as a member of the Indiana Wesleyan University Health Sciences faculty team
  • Knowledge of principles, methods and current developments in the field of OT study, including the ability to document expertise in area(s) of teaching responsibility and knowledge of the content delivery method
  • Knowledge of instructional strategies and techniques
  • Identification of needs of students based on the academic curriculum design and accreditation standards
  • Skills for evaluation of the impact of teaching on the teaching-learning process and implementation of modifications as appropriate
  • Skills in the use of computers, internet resources, and MS Office software
  • Ability to integrate appropriate technology into the teaching and learning process
  • Ability to successfully interact with students, fieldwork educators, residency mentors, other educators and institution representatives, and the general public in a professional manner
  • Interest and ability to work collaboratively in inter-professional, educational, and clinical settings
  • Adherence to the American Occupational Therapy Association (AOTA) professional standards and ethics
