Summary of Position: Resident Directors are integral members of the Residence Life team and the Student Development division of Indiana Wesleyan University, providing leadership, oversight, and vision for students within an assigned residential area. The Resident Director position is a full-time, 10 month, live-in professional position that reports directly to an Assistant Director and the Director of Residence Life.
Resident Directors are responsible for creating and fostering a residential community in which all students can experience belonging, support, and challenge. Resident Directors partner in the holistic educational mission of the university by strategically planning for students’ personal, spiritual, social, and academic development through a wide range of formational and community activities and programming. Resident Directors provide a high level of student care, mentoring, and intervention that few others on campus can match.
This is a special position that has a significant influence on the culture of our campus and on individual students’ lived experience.
Duties and Responsibilities

- Resident Directors will support the Student Development mission to partner in the holistic learning and disciple-making mission of the university by cultivating a community of belonging, support, and engagement through formative and diverse experiences

- Foster a positive residential community by being involved and visible in the residence hall/area and investing in the lives of the resident students
- Student Responsibilities: Respond to the individual needs of students within the residence hall/area, providing high levels of care, mentoring, and intervention. Collaborate with all appropriate student care and service offices to promote student thriving
- Student Staff Responsibilities: Supervise the Assistant Resident Director (ARD) and Resident Assistants (RAs). Participate in selection, training, mentoring, and evaluation of primary student staff; conduct weekly team meetings; hold student staff accountable to their job descriptions and responsibilities
- Administrative Responsibilities: Manage hall budgets; maintain appropriate housing, student conduct, and hall programming records and documentation
- Professional Expectations: Operate a professional office; meet on a regular basis with supervisor and other members of the Residence Life team; attend regular team meetings; actively participate in RD retreats, training, and planning activities; actively serve on one of several Residence Life committees; submit weekly reports and other assigned materials
- Co-Curricular / Educational Expectations: Ensure that the residence hall/area mission and vision align with the Residence Life and Student Development mission; develop a residence hall/area program plan that fulfills Residence Life and Residence Hall learning outcomes; work collaboratively with university faculty and staff in the implementation of program plans
- Facility Management: Regularly evaluate facility safety, condition, and cleanliness; submit work orders for building repairs and upgrades; oversee the assessment and payment of damages; oversee scheduling of hall/area facilities
- The Resident Director supervises an Assistant Resident Director (ARD) and 5-10 Resident Assistants (RAs)
- Fulfill other duties as assigned by supervisor
