Job Title: Director of The Learning Center and Academic Support

Reporting Relationship: Dean of Student Thriving

Summary of Position:    Seeking a leader who enjoys partnering, leading, and serving the campus by improving the student experience. The Director of The Learning Center and Academic Support serves as a dedicated team member of The Center for Academic Thriving and leads The Learning Center Team, including two Assistant Directors. This role leads The Learning Center, including academic coaching and tutoring, along with various academic support classes and programs. This position will serve to offer support as students navigate their college experience to help set them up to thrive at IWU-Marion.  


Duties and Responsibilities

  • The Learning Center:
    • Lead The Learning Center operations by supervising two Assistant Directors and implementing comprehensive academic support services that directly enhance student success and retention rates, including academic coaching, tutoring, and other services
    • Regularly assess program effectiveness through data collection and student feedback to continuously improve service delivery.
    • Oversee all aspects of the student tutor program, including developing rigorous hiring criteria, implementing evidence-based training protocols, and creating professional development opportunities/trainings that ensure high-quality academic support for diverse student needs
    • Coordinating teaching (and teaching some) specialized academic support classes
  • Spearhead Foundations Program and Student Support Pathway Programs:
    • Invest in supporting various students through coordination of academic support programs. These programs include one-on-one coaching, academic classes, creating individualized retention plans, and referring to needed support services
    • This role monitors students' progress, offers continued support, coordinates the programs and reports important retention information, and continues to seek avenues to support additional students and improve current services
  • Student Experience and Retention:
    • Invest in the student experience through events in The Center for Academic Thriving and large campus events. These events include events in the Center, New Student Orientation, move in days (2 Saturdays), admitted student day events (2 Saturdays), and various events throughout the semester
  • Administration & Research:
    • As a vital member of The Center for Academic Thriving, the Director role serves to help enhance the student experience, through committee service, research and continued learning, and investing in improving student retention

Qualifications: According to Indiana Wesleyan University employment policy all employees must possess a strong Christian commitment and adhere to the standards outlined in the IWU Community Lifestyle Statement.

Education

  • Masters Degree Required

Experience

  • At least three (3) years experience in higher education or related experience

  • Demonstrates the ability to make well-informed decisions, problem solve, and coordinate a variety of activities and tasks
  • Reveals exemplary organizational skills, attention to detail, flexibility, and the capacity to develop efficient and effective systems for the implementation of policies and processes
  • Adheres to strict confidentiality requirements
