Job Title: Lead Fire Systems Technician

Summary of Position: The primary responsibilities of the Lead Fire Systems Technician are: Provide leadership for the Fire Systems operation within Facility Services, Mechanical Systems Division; coordinate and organize daily to monthly work schedules with Director of Mechanical Systems; ensure the provision of uninterrupted, quality Fire Systems service and maintenance to the Marion Campus; provide and exhibit sound stewardship practices as pertaining to budgets within the Mechanical Systems Division; monitor and maintain inventories of components and other associated supplies as required for Fire Systems operations and maintenance; and collaborate with other Lead Technicians through weekly leadership meetings with Director of Mechanical Systems. In addition, Monitor and maintain inspection records to meet code requirements for Fire Systems; collaborate with Director of Mechanical Systems on contractor selection for out-sourced inspection and maintenance agreements and serve as liaison with contractors/vendors; and provide training for individuals within the department to provide fire systems inspections, repair and basic fire systems information.
Duties and Responsibilities
Provide shop level leadership and oversight over daily operations within the Fire Systems Department of the Mechanical Systems division; Implement daily, weekly, and monthly job schedules to ensure IWU meets all requirements for State and Federal Fire Safety codes
Assist Director of Mechanical Systems in the development of a Campus Capital Action Plan specifically related to the University Fire Systems assets by identifying future maintenance items with potential budgetary impact of those items
Daily review, monitoring and repair of Building Fire System components as well as assign tasks and supervise student worker pool as necessary
In coordination with Director: -provide leadership in the procurement of materials, supplies, equipment, and services related to the campus Fire Systems -represent IWU as assigned to internal and external committees, boards, and agencies in related functions and assignments -assist with internal project development including scope, code adherence, labor and material estimation, budget establishment and oversight -serve as liaison with contractors/vendors
Receive and carry out special assignments as may be directed by the Director of Mechanical Systems; may be required to work overtime as directed by supervision

Education
High School Diploma as well as certifications listed below
Experience
Ten (10) years of progressively responsible experience in Fire Systems technology including equipment maintenance and repair
Required Skills
Must be certified in the following area of expertise:
Water based suppression systems inspection and maintenance
Clean Agent based suppression systems inspection and maintenance
Cross-connection Device (Backflow) inspection and maintenance
