Main purpose of the role
To be responsible for the design, BOM issue, production, and technical support for a portfolio of products including Traysealer tooling, Distribution Systems, Graders, Bespoke Machinery and Conveyors.
Primary Responsibilities
- To be responsible for designs, BOM’s, development work, enquiries and value engineering activities on-time and to the correct specification, hygiene and quality standards.
- Holding design reviews, understanding the key requirements and progressing a design to completion.
- Utilising Design for Manufacture and Value Engineering techniques to ensure a smooth transition from design concepts into manufacture.
- Select appropriate third-party components to be used within designs.
- To produce layout, assembly and detail drawings from a sketched idea.
- To produce costing sheets for proposed designs, parts and assemblies.
- To produce quotes and equipment selection recommendations.
- To formulate technical specifications for parts and products.
- To encourage innovation and actively participate in continuous improvement initiatives.
- To ensure full compliance with all relevant regulations, legislation and customer specific Codes of Practice.
- To ensure KPI targets for RFT, efficiency, cost and service are consistently achieved.
- To meet all deadlines and targets.
- Provide positive support to other team members and assist as required.
- Establish good working relationships with assembly teams, planning, purchasing, sales and other key members of all Departments.
- Reporting of HR or Health and Safety issues to the Production Manager.
What skills are we looking for?
The successful candidate must have an HNC or equivalent qualification in an engineering discipline, along with relevant mechanical design experience and experience designing pneumatic equipment and circuits. You will need strong working knowledge of ME10, AutoCAD and/or SolidWorks, with the ability to produce layouts, assembly drawings and detailed drawings from a sketched concept, including accurate detailing and dimensioning to ISO standards. A full understanding of relevant Health & Safety regulations is essential, as is the ability to utilise appropriate calculations and formulae to support and validate design ideas.
The ideal candidate must have commissioning and site experience, together with strong problem-solving skills and excellent organisational and time-management abilities. You will be innovative and proactive, with the ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a wider team. A practical, solutions-focused approach and the ability to take design concepts through to successful implementation would be highly advantageous.
