The successful candidate will

  • Support a team of clinical authors (who will be approved and authoring material in which they are approved in) to:
    • Produce, update and streamline DWP clinical CTGM
    • Impact external clinical QA and internal policy QA comments 
    • Ensure CTGM is evidence based and in keeping with national best practice and guidelines   
    • Ensure content is free from bias/plagiarism, is produced in keeping with held licences and that content is appropriately referenced
  • Update and produce high quality clinical CTGM
  • Provide assurance for the Chief Medical Advisor, the Clinical Education Lead and other DWP officials that education material reflects national best practice and guidelines and benefit specific policy intent. 
  • Actively develop and upskill clinical authors, including any authors new to role.  Develop and deliver any supporting training to include, but not limited to, authorship skills and benefit specific knowledge.
  • Engage with both internal and external stakeholders as required, including but not limited to the Editorial Board  
  • Have a sound understanding of the requirements for Health Care Professionals in the delivery of benefit assessments to provide insights in to the content of CTGM
  • Maintain professional registration and engage in a programme of CPD to meet such requirements
  • Quickly identify when things are not right and take appropriate action, including escalating, to put them right. 
  • Lead ad-hoc strategic work/projects in response to identified areas in need of improvement or in response to change

The successful candidate should:

  • Be a qualified clinician who is registered with their respective professional body, has a minimum of 5 years post qualification experience and a minimum of 2 years as a DWP approved assessor
    • No conditions on registration unless they relate solely to a disability 
  • Have demonstrable leadership skills
  • Have experience in Clinical Authorship and/or Clinical Training/ Education, with a strong background in medical writing, along with knowledge of medical terminology, research methodologies, and regulatory guidelines. Proven experience researching and analysing medical information from a variety of sources
  • Proven experience communicating effectively with internal and external stakeholders, and the general public.
  • Have excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to translate complex material into simple explanations.
  • Have excellent organisational skills with the ability to adapt, influence and solve problems at pace.  
  • Be able to evidence ability to engage others, including senior stakeholder management and engagement 
  • Have demonstrable experience in dealing with potentially challenging situations and conflict, and resilience. 
  • Be able to lead others through change and adapt to working with ambiguity.
  • Be able to collaborate with others in an inclusive way, leading by example
  • Be able to interpret and relay potentially sensitive and/ or ambiguous information with the required clarity and certainty for others, in various communication methods
