The Opportunity
Malaysia is one of only a handful of countries in the world with a national men’s health policy. This project is a retrospective policy analysis of what led to the development of Malaysia’s National Men’s Health Plan of Action 2018–2023: how the issue reached the policy agenda, who shaped the policy, and what enabled its adoption. The work builds on The Lancet series on gender equality, norms and health, authored in part by Professor Sarah Hawkes (co-chair of the Lancet Commission on Gender and Global Health) and Professor Buse. The project is supported by Dr Peter Gan of the Health Transformation Unit, Ministry of Health Malaysia, who will facilitate access to stakeholders.
The Research Assistant will conduct the policy analysis under the supervision and close mentoring of Professor Buse, whose expertise lies in health policy analysis. The analysis is intended to result in a peer-reviewed journal publication, with the Research Assistant as a co-author. The role also supports the launch of the Lancet series at Monash University Malaysia.
