The Opportunity

The Senior Manager, Program Development is responsible for the development of major new research and engagement programs for the Australia-Indonesia Centre. These programs convene Australian and Indonesian universities to undertake research with active involvement of partners from government, industry and community. The immediate focus is the development of a flagship initiative in West Java. The role is expected to lead the development of additional programs as the AIC's portfolio evolves.

The role conceptualises new programs, develops the business case, builds the partnerships needed to deliver them, and works with AIC management to convert pipeline opportunities into committed funding. The Senior Manager shapes the AIC's forward program portfolio in line with the Centre's three-year strategy and the strategic priorities set by the Executive Director and Board.

The Senior Manager, Program Development works across Australian and Indonesian universities, government agencies, industry, and philanthropic partners. The role builds consensus among diverse stakeholders, navigates complex bilateral policy environments, and converts opportunities into funded, delivery-ready research programs.

The role also provides strategic guidance to the AIC's PAIR Sulawesi program as it approaches the end of program in late 2027. The Senior Manager uses senior networks to amplify PAIR's policy reach and impact, and contributes to the design of successor activity.

The position requires the capacity to work independently with considerable autonomy, and to collaborate effectively across a distributed, binational team.
