SC State University’s Public Service & Agriculture (PSA) seeks a highly motivated and detail-oriented Research Scientist II to join our Food Safety & Health team. This role will support the Director of Food Safety & Health in conducting advanced research, developing innovative food safety strategies, and ensuring compliance with regulatory standards. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in microbiology, food science, or a related research and education field, with experience in laboratory research, data analysis and presentation. This position is part of the 1890 Research and Extension team, which plays a vital role in advancing scientific knowledge and promoting community outreach.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Conduct cutting-edge research in food safety and health, with a focus on developing innovative solutions to address pressing challenges in these areas.
2. Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to design and implement research projects, ensuring scientific rigor and practical relevance.
3. Analyze data, interpret findings, and publish results in peer-reviewed journals and scientific publications.
4. Participate in grant proposal development and secure external funding to support research endeavors.
5. Mentor and supervise undergraduate and graduate students, fostering their professional development and research skills.
6. Engage in community outreach activities, disseminating research findings and promoting best practices in food safety and health.
7. Represent SC State at conferences, workshops, and professional meetings, further enhancing the university's reputation and visibility.
8. Maintain communication with PSA Administration, College of Agriculture, Family and Consumer Sciences Personnel including 1890 Research and 1890 Extension leadership.
Qualifications:
1. Ph.D. in Food Science, Nutrition, Public Health, or a closely related field from an accredited institution.
2. Demonstrated expertise in food safety, food microbiology, nutrition, or public health, with a strong research background.
3. Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with a proven ability to design and execute research projects.
4. Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with diverse teams.
5. Experience in grant writing and securing external funding is highly desirable.
6. Commitment to mentoring and supporting the professional development of students.
