The basics of this position:

Supports Horticulture team in delivering an exceptional educational experience for horticulture students. Prepares, maintains, cleans, and organizes educational materials, equipment, and facilities for student classes, labs, and greenhouse activities.

What you'll do:

  • · Supports maintenance of orderly educational environment in the lab, classroom, and plant production facilities.

    · Performs routine cleaning and organization of lab materials and equipment including, but not limited to, pots, flats, slides, lab glass, lab samples, pH meters, lab benches, and drafting tables.

    · Ensures that all storage and work areas are kept clean and organized.

    · Performs routine sanitization and cleaning of all greenhouse facilities including but not limited to, lean-to structures, cold-frames, polyhouse, greenhouse, mist benches, swamp cooler, and hydroponic systems. May utilize hazardous cleaning chemicals which will require personal protective equipment like gloves, goggles, long sleeves, pants, and waterproof shoes.

    · Maintains and updates lab material inventories digitally and in hard copy format. Will require use of computer and Microsoft Suite of software.

    · Processes student and general lab soil samples by screening, stirring, drying, and packaging.

    · Checks and stocks student lab kits regularly.

    · Behaves and communicates in a manner that promotes and fosters a culture of teamwork and cooperation, with students, faculty, co-workers, supervisors/managers, volunteers, and visitors.

    · Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Education, experience, and other requirements:

High School Diploma or equivalent and one (1) year of relevant full-time experience.
Proficient with Microsoft Office software including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
PHYSICAL REQUIRMENTS:
Manual labor including lifting and carrying heavy objects weighing up to 40 pounds is expected.
While performing the duties of this job the incumbent is frequently required to; stoop, kneel, crouch and bend; reach with hands and arms; use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools or controls; stand; and walk. The incumbent is occasionally required to sit; and climb or balance.
