The post-doctoral role is designed to enhance the research knowledge, skills, and practices of recent doctoral graduates, with a goal of advancing their preparation to engage in fundamental and applied research within their field. The post- doctoral associate supports, plans, and conducts original research and scholarship while working with faculty, staff, and potentially mentoring graduate and undergraduate students at the University of Toledo. The post-doctoral position carries out research in close collaboration with and primarily under the direction of Principal Investigators and faculty members at the University of Toledo. Typically, this position participates in preparation of technical reports, publications and grant proposals, and collaborates with other members of the research group. This position may also participate in instructional and training activities and in mentoring or supervising undergraduate and graduate students engaged in research activities.

- The post-doctoral associate will serve as an essential part of the research team. For sponsored research, they impact the research team’s ability to meet expected project outcomes.
Qualifications/Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

- PhD, MD, or terminal degree in (specify related disciplines)
- Demonstrate good written and verbal communication skills (in English)
- Ability to work cooperatively with multidisciplinary research team.
- Ability to perform research independently and under general direction of the supervisor.
- Sound knowledge of best practices in research for appropriate field.
- Effective decision-making and problem-solving skills required.
- Must be detail oriented, and highly organized with the ability to keep accurate records.
- Demonstrated strong analysis skills.
Specialized/Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (will vary depending on discipline)

- Experience in animal research (behavior and surgery) and associated regulations (if needed)
- Omics and general statistical analysis
- Knowledge or experience with developmental models
- Ability to provide general laboratory maintenance and oversee day-to-day operations.
- List specialized skills required (i.e., instrumentation, laboratory techniques archival research)
- Must be familiar with chemical hygiene and biosafety procedures, and complete required training in such procedures (if needed).
Reporting Relationships
The post-doctoral associate reports to their assigned faculty member, PI or Research Team Leader.
No roles report directly to this position, but they may oversee the work of undergraduate students, graduate students, interns, or other research participants employees.
Working Conditions
Works in a research environment. (If needed: Work may involve some exposure to and handling of research animals (mice), potentially biohazardous substances (recombinant DNA, retro and lentiviruses, ATCC human cell lines), and potentially hazardous chemicals (organic solvents, cancer chemotherapeutic drugs).The irregular nature of the timing of research projects may require some evening and weekend hours.
