Job Description:
The Director of Business Intelligence and Reporting advances the University’s knowledge management and institutional effectiveness efforts by leading the development and maintenance of a high-quality data infrastructure, reporting systems, and analytical tools that support institutional reporting, analysis, and data-informed decision making. The Director collaborates with stakeholders across the University to identify information needs, reporting requirements, and business processes, translating these needs into reliable data resources and analytical solutions that promote a culture of inquiry and continuous improvement. The position requires strong leadership and technical expertise, including advanced knowledge of relational databases, SQL programming, and modern business intelligence and analytics tools. The Director serves as the University’s HEI liaison and is responsible for the accurate and timely submission of required data to the Ohio Department of Higher Education. The role includes participation in institutional research and analytics initiatives, leadership of projects related to financial and employee data, and support of departmental operations through process improvements, coordination of the office’s project management system, and oversight of data integrity, documentation, ethical data management practices, and the confidentiality of institutional information.
Minimum Qualifications:
Education/experience/licensing:
• Master’s degree from an accredited institution in computer science, information technology, engineering, data science, business, social science or closely-related field with a strong quantitative/analytic focus.
• Minimum of 5 years’ experience working in higher education.
• Minimum of 5 years’ experience in institutional research, data analytics, or business intelligence with demonstrated expertise in writing SQL query extracts from an enterprise information system, database design, and business intelligence tools such Power BI, Tableau, and Argos.
• Minimum of 3 years’ experience in a senior analyst or leadership position supporting evidence-based decision-making.
• Minimum of 1 year experience in management or supervisor role(s).
Communication and other skills:
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with ability to work effectively in a diverse environment across various functional areas of a complex organization.
• Strong organization and time management skills with meticulous attention to detail and documentation.
• Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously from inception through execution and evaluation, creating clearly-defined, measurable, and attainable project objectives, building project requirements, managing project constraints, and communicating progress and end results.
• Ability to work effectively both collaboratively and independently.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Ph.D. or other terminal degree preferred.
• Expertise building and maintaining SQL queries and reports, performing quality checks and validations of data reports, and developing and maintaining procedural documentation; SQL certification preferred.
• Expertise with relational databases; Banner preferred, database specialist certification preferred.
