Position Summary: The Health Services Clinic Assistant assists clinic providers and nursing staff in provision of basic care for patients and clinic administrative staff with unit tasks. This position functions in compliance with Student Health Services policies and procedures. The student employee functions as a member of the health care team under the direction of the clinic providers or nursing staff and reports to the clinic nurse or Clinic Director in conformity with regulatory policy.

Essential Functions:
o Obtain vital signs on all patients including height, weight, blood pressure, pulse, respiration rate, temperature, and oxygen saturation.
o Perform Peak Flows for patients with upper respiratory illness or cough.
o Assist with setting up exam rooms for procedures.
o Perform point of care urinalysis and urine pregnancy testing.
o Wash, clean, package, and use autoclave to sterilize instrumentation.
o Clean and re-stock examination rooms before/after use.
o Assist with monitoring and taking inventory of clinic supplies and notify nursing staff/clinic director when supplies are low.
o Clean bathroom, lab, and waiting room as needed or as requested.
o Demonstrate safe and appropriate use of medical equipment, ex: digital scale, blood pressure cuff, thermometer, pulse oximetry, oxygen tank, and autoclave.
o Transport equipment and supplies as needed.
o Assist clinic providers and staff as needed.
o Collect and label samples/specimen as requested.
o Obtain and record vital signs, report abnormal values to clinic providers or nursing staff as appropriate.
o Maintain confidentiality in relation to all patients, health services staff, and health records.
o Meets annual requirements in accordance with agency policy and procedure.
o Appearance is professional and complies with Student Health Services dress code.
o Maintains a cooperative demeanor towards patients and their support person(s) and health services staff.
Required Qualifications:
o The candidate must successfully complete any/all required pre-employment evaluation test(s) per policy.
o The candidate must be able to read, write, and spell.
o Must be able to understand and carry out directions given in verbal, written, and typed formats.
o Candidates will be given a spelling test at the time of the interview.
o Candidate should be familiar with the and able to comply with HIPAA (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act).
o Candidates must conduct themselves in a mature, compassionate, sympathetic, professional, inclusive, and discreet manner.
o Candidate must possess excellent communication and organizational skills.
Physical Requirements:
o Candidate must have the physical ability to perform job-related duties, which may include lifting, standing, bending, transferring, stooping, stretching, walking, pushing, and pulling.
o Candidates will be required to show proof of current TB skin test and Influenza vaccine, or obtain a TB skin test, or other Tuberculosis screening as indicated, and an Influenza vaccine.
Preferred Qualifications:
o Candidate possesses knowledge of medical terminology, taking patient vital signs, and assisting health services clinic staff in various situations.
