Position Summary: The Fitness Trainer position is ideal for Washburn students interested in developing expertise in fitness and wellness through specialized tracks in Individual Training or Group Instruction. This role offers valuable hands-on experience guiding clients in physical activity, supporting healthy lifestyle choices, and promoting long-term wellness. Trainers will engage, educate, and empower members for lifelong health and fitness success.
Primary focus areas are:
-Personal training - Deliver one-on-one sessions, conduct fitness assessments, and design customized exercise programs.
-Group Instruction - Lead group fitness classes in formats such as yoga, cycling, and circuit training.
-Fitness & Wellness Events - Support department events, challenges, and activities.
-Educational Leadership - Conduct at least one educational session as a presentation, clinic, workshop, or seminar.

Essential Functions:
-Consult with clients, provide baseline assessments, and schedule movement screenings.
-Design and lead effective, individualized training sessions, ensuring safe and proper exercise techniques.
-Maintain consistent communication and feedback with clients, tracking progress and adapting programs as needed.
-Manage records, adhere to all department policies, and uphold national training guidelines (e.g., ACE, NSCA, ACSM, NASM).
-Instruct group classes that emphasize safe, inclusive practices and promote fundamental fitness such as warm-up, cardio, flexibility, and cool-down.
-Offer modifications to meet diverse fitness levels and ensure a welcoming environment.
-Attend staff meetings, pursue Continuing Education Credits (CECs/CEUs), and engage in personal and professional development.

Required Qualifications:
-Knowledge of human anatomy, kinesiology, and training principles.
-Current enrollment as a Washburn student.
-Strong customer service skills and a team-oriented attitude.

Preferred Qualifications:
-Experience in personal or group training, preferably in a gym setting.
-Skills in group fitness instruction, including music, tempo, cueing, and rhythm.
-CPR, AED, and First Aid certification (American Red Cross).
