Position Summary:

The Health & Wellness Ambassador for student employment serves as a critical team member of the Student Health Service (SHS) and Student Counseling Services (SCS). The student employee functions as a member of the healthcare team under the direct supervision of the Student Health Director, in accordance with regulatory policy. This position will help reach out to students struggling with mental wellness, coping with new environments, and connecting them with on-campus services. Student employees will also support SHS & SCS with their on-campus events.

This position is open to students who are eager to learn and develop new skills, including leadership, communication, critical thinking, professionalism, career & self-development, problem-solving, teamwork, collaborating with people from diverse backgrounds, and relationship building.

Flexible scheduling is available for regular office hours, Monday through Friday, between 8:00am and 5:00pm, and after-hours, from 5:00pm - 10:00pm. And on weekends, Saturdays, and Sundays, between 8:00am and 8:00pm.

Essential Functions:
This job emphasizes academic support, mental wellness, coping skills, and mentoring to enhance student academic success and mental health wellness. All students must abide by the rules and policies of Washburn University and the Federal Work-Study (FWS) program.
-Provide peer-level support and help connect students to on-campus health and mental health resources.
-Educate fellow students on mental health topics, stress management, sexual health, and substance use prevention.
-Participate in outreach initiatives, such as wellness events and educational campaigns.
-Demonstrate professionalism, empathy, and active listening in all peer interactions.
-Collaborate with Student Health Services, Counseling Services, and campus departments.
-Uphold confidentiality and ethical boundaries in accordance with HIPAA guidelines.
-Maintain regular communication with program supervisors and complete the required documentation.
-Maintain professionalism and ethical conduct in all interactions.
-Utilize leadership and critical thinking skills to manage educational materials, events, and communications.
-Participate in ongoing training, supervision, and self-assessment to support personal and professional development.
-Performs additional job-related duties as assigned.
-Serve as a visible ambassador to campus events and outreach campaigns.
-Assist in the design or distribution of health-related promotional materials.
-Participate in optional wellness campaigns or additional peer mentoring activities.
-Provide feedback on program development and contribute ideas to improve outreach strategies.

Required Qualifications:
-Must maintain a cumulative GPA of at least 2.75.
-Must be enrolled full-time/part-time at Washburn University and have good academic standing.
-Must have one year of experience at Washburn University as a Peer Mentor.
-Must be willing to participate in a 6-week training course through Student Health Services.
