Position Summary: The Student Success Coach coaches a defined, consistent group of at-risk students, especially students who are First-Year, First-Generation, Low-Income, underrepresented, academically under-prepared, and/or on Academic Warning or Probation. The Student Success Coach is part of a new advising model where Coaches are integrally involved with all facets of a student's academic, personal, and future success. The Coach will regularly interact with students to support them as they identify and reach educational goals, develop study skills and life skills, and overcome challenges to realize their personal potential.

Essential Functions:
• The Coach will provide proactive and developmental interventions to at-risk undergraduate students as they create a personalized academic plan and set goals. In addition, the Coach will share resources that address obstacles within and beyond the classroom to help students achieve their academic goals. The Coach will tailor each intervention to the needs of the student.
• Areas of focus for any appointment or intervention include:
o Goal Setting and Goal Achievement
o Career Development
o Financial Literacy
o Personal and Academic Success Strategies, including decision-making, confidence, motivation, test-taking, organization, and time management
o Strengths Identification
o Engagement and Campus Involvement
o Navigating Campus and Community Resources
o Policies and Strategies for students on Academic Warning or Academic Probation that promote rapid GPA repair and a return to Good Academic Standing
• The Coach will create academic success plans and/or academic recovery plans with students.
• The Coach will collaborate closely with faculty and advisors to monitor academic performance and progress.
• The Coach will coordinate with other members of a student's success team to follow up on academic alerts, mid-term grades, and other indicators of student concern.
• The Coach will intervene with students, providing appropriate support services and/or referrals to on and off-campus resources as needed.
• The Coach will effectively use the appropriate Student Success Software to document student progress.
• The Coach will establish and maintain working relationships with University staff that support holistic student care.
• The Coach will teach or co-teach section(s) of Washburn Experience Courses, such as WU 101: The Washburn Experience and WU 120: Career and Major Exploration, if they possess the appropriate credentials.
• The Coach will participate in ongoing training and professional development to continually improve and align their academic coaching skills with NACADA best practices.
• Perform additional job-related duties as assigned or as appropriate.
• The assigned location or tasks between Washburn University and Washburn University Institute of Technology will be flexible and determined by location needs.

Required Qualifications:
• Bachelor's degree.
• Evidence of the ability to work effectively in a collaborative, team environment that is focused on student success. A dedication to equal opportunity and experience working with all populations.
• Ability to demonstrate initiative and flexibility in a fast-paced and fluid work environment.
• Proven effective interpersonal, communication, time management, and organizational skills.
• Experience utilizing a broad range of technologies.

Preferred Qualifications:
• Master's degree.
• Experience in advising, teaching, academic coaching, counseling, social work, mentoring or a related field.
• Bi-lingual capability.
• Experience with student success initiatives such as mentoring, counseling, or academic coaching.

Special Instructions to Applicants:
Please note, that this position will work a 10am-7pm shift.
