General Summary

The Learning and Organizational Development Specialist oversees and coordinates university-wide efforts to ensure that learning management and organization development initiatives are developed, deployed and aligned in support of Eastern Michigan University's objectives. This position supports and administers effective programs for the development, retention, and promotion of all university employees. This role will also implement performance management, wellness programs, and professional development opportunities.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

  • Manage the maintenance and execution of the performance management system to develop employees' knowledge, skills, and behaviors.
  • Design, develop, implement, and facilitate performance and organizational development learning modules that enhance workforce competencies, retention, and personal development.
  • Through collaboration with internal subject matter experts, create and maintain e-learning courses through a variety of online learning technologies.
  • Provide support for the design, development, and rollout of a variety of compliance courses.
  • Develop effective relationships within the university in order to influence, impact, and continuously evolve the learning and organizational development process.
  • Manage learning and organizational development communication projects.
  • Implement appropriate assessment tools that provide insight into the effectiveness of the University's learning and development priorities.
  • Research and outline best practices. Ensure that learning and organization development processes are properly documented and reviewed/revised on a regular basis to meet the ongoing needs of the university.
  • Support and promote wellness and other educational opportunities offered across the university.
  • Provide exceptional customer service to both internal and external customers.
  • Participate in cross-functional teams, undertake special projects, and perform other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

A bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Human Resource Management/OD, or a related behavioral science field is required.

At least two years of progressively responsible work experience in either learning and organizational development is required.

Strong technical aptitude in MS Office (MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint), Google suite, and reporting creation and generation is required.

Experience with performance management systems in the areas of performance evaluations, e-learning, and Learning Management Systems (LMS) is required.

Knowledge of current practices and trends in learning, performance management, and organizational development is required.

History of positive customer facing interactions and proactive customer support is required.

Excellent written, verbal, interpersonal, and communication skills are required.

Preferred Qualifications:

A master's degree is preferred.

Experience working in a highly unionized environment is preferred.

Experience with PageUp, Ellucian Banner HR, or a similar, comprehensive online system is preferred.
