General Summary

The Program Coordinator of the Brotherhood/Sisterhood Scholars will lead, create, implement, and assess persistence intensive programming through social and academic co-curricular activities. This role will coordinate initiatives to engage, increase, and achieve persistence success through support, resources, education, and awareness.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

  • Create, design, lead, and implement all aspects (including social media and other communication and marketing strategies) of persistence programming within the assigned fiscal resources, based on institutional directives.
  • Provide workshops, life skills development opportunities, and educational sessions for the campus and community (e.g, cohort meetings, dialogs, volunteerism, community engagement projects, guest speakers, etc.).
  • Negotiate and execute contracts and ensure university compliance with legal agreements.
  • Develop tools to assess student needs and to identify negative or restrictive environmental conditions, and manage the data collection process.
  • Provide and conduct program assessments, benchmarks, and student interest surveys on a regular basis to measure achievement of expected program outcomes and to ensure high quality programming.
  • Assist with the identification and development of grant proposals to support departmental activities.
  • Lead, organize, and manage the full-cycle recruitment and selection process for program participants.
  • Work with designated Academic Advisors to provide academic support and assist with course selection and registration for program participants.
  • Verify academic status and that appropriate and required selections are being made toward degree progress.
  • Review the curriculum for the freshman year experience course, UNIV.
  • Provide guidance and assistance to students in the programs and department.
  • Conduct one-on-one and group meetings to provide information and mentoring.
  • Operate within and enforce relevant department and university policies and procedures.
  • Plan, implement, and execute a Brotherhood/Sisterhood Orientation for new cohorts, program staff, parents and guardians, etc., ensuring that the program participants experience a seamless start to their first semester of college.
  • Stay current on student retention best practices by attending webinars and conferences, reading industry publications, seeking feedback, and connecting with other professionals in the field.
  • Provide feedback to both supervisors on operational and administrative matters including research of best practices and making recommendations for program changes and improvements.
  • Foster, collaborate, liaise, and maintain a strong partnership with the five colleges, academic departments, and various offices and support resources around campus to better serve students in the program.
  • Recruit, train, develop, and supervise student staff and interns employed by the program. Provide direction and guidance for student staff work.
  • Lead, manage, and administer the program scholarship process, including scholarship promotion, alignment of donor requirements with suitable program participants, review, determination, and awarding of the merit-based scholarships.

Minimum Qualifications:

Knowledge and skills in student development and programming, typically acquired through the completion of a master's degree in educational administration, college student personnel, guidance and counseling, or another related field or the combination of education, work experience, and other relevant credentials that enable the performance of all aspects of the position is required.

At least two years of professional, post-graduate work experience working with academically and/or economically disadvantaged students in higher education or community organization is required.

Experience in providing oversight to a program or office, including developing and managing budgets, and supervising staff and/or students is required.

Demonstrated evidence of interpersonal, organizational, oral and written communication skills is required.

Demonstrated ability to use basic and some advanced functions of Windows and/or Mac operating systems, Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), the internet and web-based forms is required.

Must be willing to work irregular and flexible hours, including evenings, weekends and some holidays.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience in providing tutoring, learning assistance, or remedial/developmental programs in a college environment is preferred.
