General Summary

Engage@ EMU cultivates and creates community and university initiatives, programs and partnerships mostly aligned with academic programs. Engage services all University colleges, academic departments and programs and serves as a liaison to several community organizations and local municipalities. Engage@EMU also houses the College in Prison Program. This position will assist in the overall management of the College in Prison Program by working directly with students in the program, Michigan Department of Corrections Officials, and Women’s Huron Valley Correctional Facility Staff. Additionally, the person in this position will serve as the main Navigator for all students facing reentry during their time as a College in Prison student. This position will be supervised by the Director, College in Prison.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

  • Serve as the main point of communication for all students in the Reentry process.
    • Work 1:1 with all returning students to create reentry plans
  • Develop and implement a New Student Orientation program for incoming CiP students.
  • Assist with student research needs; collaborating with University Library and Academic. Partners to improve these communication processes.
  • Assist with Academic Advising and Concentration Selection practices.
  • Maintain a database of Program supplies, needs, and opportunities.
  • Assist with the facilitation of New Instructor Orientation and ongoing Instructor Support.
  • Attend Student Voice Council Meetings at WHV and work with Student Leaders on various initiatives.
  • Support Club Advisors on an as needed basis.
  • Co-Supervise Wellness Coaches.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Background in Social Work, Management, Community Education, Arts Administration and/or Non-Profit organization or administration.
  • Independent, motivated, self-starter looking for a high-level of responsibility and value within an organization.
  • Strong writing/editing/communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Interest and experience working or learning in carceral education settings (social service, art, government, etc.)
