Job Summary/Basic Functions

The Department of Language and Cultural Studies, Anthropology, and Sociology at Eastern Kentucky University invites applications for a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor for Academic Year 2025-2026. Applicants should hold an earned Ph.D. in Spanish or a closely related field from an accredited institution at the time of appointment. ABD applicants may be considered by must have Ph.D. (verified by official transcripts) at the time of appointment. The position begins August 2025.

This generalist position serves courses in the Spanish program. It requires native or near-native fluency in Spanish, experience with Spanish-teaching methodology and Latinx community engagement, and interest in cross-cultural studies. Demonstrated experience with relationship-rich education, student academic and professional readiness is preferred. The successful candidate will teach all levels of undergraduate Spanish language, culture, and literature in a 4/4 annual teaching load with a student-centered focus. The successful candidate will be expected to participate in promoting the Spanish program and in various departmental activities and campus-wide initiatives.

Minimum Qualifications

Education: Earned Ph.D. in Spanish or a closely related field from an accredited institution at the time of appointment. ABD applicants may be considered by must have Ph.D. (verified by official transcripts) at the time of appointment.

Experience: Native or near-native speaker in Spanish is required.

Job Duties:

  • Maintain a 4/4 teaching load, teaching courses as assigned at the times and in the locations necessary to meet the needs of EKU students
  • Utilize effective teaching methods, innovative teaching techniques, and teaching modalities, and multiple evaluation and assessment procedures as a means to help meet the needs of EKU students
  • Demonstrate the ability to teach, develop, and implement courses related to one’s curricular area
  • Demonstrate the willingness and ability to work effectively with colleagues to support the mission of EKU, its academic units, and its campus community
  • Maintain an active research agenda
