Assistant Director, Residence Life, First Year Experience - 998981 Iowa
Drake University believes that the experience students receive from the residence hall program benefits their academic, social, intellectual, and personal growth. The philosophy of Drake University is that the student life in the residence halls is not separate from the academic mission of the University, but rather it is supportive of students' total development. The Assistant Director (AD), First Year Experience will work actively and collaboratively toward the realization of this philosophy serving as a role model, advisor, administrator, supervisor, and supporter. The AD is a twelve month, live-in, master's degree-level (masters in College Personnel, Higher Education Administration, or related field required) professional who reports to the Associate Director of Residence Life. The AD facilitates the total student life experience in three First Year residence halls with approximately 600 residents. These responsibilities include programming, enforcement of community standards, supervision of undergraduate staff, and management of desk operations. The AD also plays a role in the campus-wide elements of the First Year Experience, including Welcome Weekend, Family Weekend, and Admission's events.

The successful candidate will teach one section of TESL 125/225 in Fall 2026. The course objectives and syllabus have already been established. The instructor will be responsible for facilitating course activities and projects designed to meet course objectives as well as grading all related coursework. The course is delivered in an online format with required synchronous Zoom sessions.

The person in this role will manage an assigned recruitment territory and assist in achieving the student recruitment and enrollment objectives for the university. They will represent Drake University to a variety of constituents, including prospective students and their families, school counselors, and more. This position requires regular travel to the assigned recruitment territory in order to attend college fairs, visit high schools, and meet individually with prospective students. The Admission Counselor will work with students through the entire recruitment process, from inquiry to matriculation. The Jay N. Darling Institute at Drake University is seeking a summer intern that will collaborate with community, school, and city stakeholders in Perry, Iowa in order to build a Perry Youth Council. Successful candidates may be permitted to work remotely, but this position will require occasional travel to and work from Perry. While the process to establish a youth council will be defined by the successful candidate, this position will require focus groups that engage the youth of Perry as well as in-community meetings to ensure that the diversity of the community is well-represented. The duration of this project is May 17th, 2026 – August 10th, 2026, with some flexibility around start and end dates.
