Job Summary:

This position has the primary responsibility for men’s basketball sports performance (and other sports as assigned). Dependent on experience, the incumbent may be considered for the assistant athletics director for sports performance role.

The assistant athletics director for sports performance will lead a comprehensive program for all 18 varsity sports to include strength and conditioning, injury prevention, rehabilitation and nutrition.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • Previous experience working within collegiate or professional athletics
  • Knowledge in principles of nutrition
  • Strong communication and organizational skills
  • Commitment to the standards set forth by Drake University and the NCAA
  • Hold and maintain appropriate professional certifications through the National Strength and Conditioning Association or Collegiate Strength and Conditioning Coaches Association
  • Valid CPR/AED certification
  • Valid driver’s license

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations
  • Master’s degree

Job Duties:

  • 65% - Directly responsible for comprehensive, primary oversight of other sports in addition to men’s basketball - (Essential)
  • 10% - Facilitate a collaborative relationship among sport coaches, sports medicine and sports performance staffs - (Essential)
  • 10% - Partner with the sports medicine staff in the rehabilitation, strengthening and support of injured athletes - (Essential)
  • 10% - Administrative duties as assigned - (Essential)
  • 5% - Other tasks as assigned for the well-being of student-athletes and the Sports Performance department including proper maintenance of equipment (regular inspection and repair/replacement as necessary)
    • Work cooperatively and collaboratively with other staff and departments
    • Required travel as well as the ability to work non-traditional hours that include nights, weekends and holidays. Hours will vary based on practice, competition and recruiting schedules
