Job Summary:
Under the direct or indirect supervision from the Executive Director, Associate Director or HVAC Utility Manager, the HVAC Supervisor will be responsible for the work of heating, air conditioning and ventilation maintenance and repairs by HVAC mechanics, Duty Engineers, Assistant Duty Engineers and other assigned personnel. This team will operate, maintain, and repair all equipment used for heating, ventilation and air conditioning. This includes operations of a central heating plant utilizing steam and/or hot water for tempering or heating buildings and a chilled water system to provide cooling to all buildings.

Minimum Qualifications:
• High School education or equivalent.
• Demonstrated experience leading and managing a professional and skilled trades work force that is customer service focused, response to work request inquiries and is courteous with customers.
• Strong supervision and leadership skills that can direct employees and coordinate schedules.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Must be able to initiate and maintain good customer and co-worker relationships in a team environment.
• Ability to respond to off-hours emergencies and telephone calls.
• Valid Iowa Driver’s License, good driving record and insurable by Drake University.

Preferred Qualifications:
• Experience with automated work management system managing work flow, assigning work, work completion monitoring, work performance analysis, and time entry.
• Universal Refrigeration License and/or experience to adjust refrigerant charges and super-heat levels.
• HVAC Experience sufficient to qualify with a minimum of 5 years actual work in the trade.
• Ability to operate high pressure boilers and chillers to maintain system temperatures and equipment.
• Proficiency using building automations systems.

Job Duties:
- 20% - Leads a team that performs maintenance and service repairs on heating, ventilation, and cooling systems including controls, pumps, fans, motors, forced air equipment, boilers and cooling equipment, and building automation. - (Essential)
- 20% - Assists in providing hands-on training of HVAC Mechanics, Duty Engineers, and Assistant Duty Engineers in the maintenance and repair of HVAC equipment. - (Essential)
- 10% - Schedules seasonally change equipment over from heating to cooling and back with filter changes and PM assigned tasks. - (Essential)
- 10% - Manages building automation system (Metasys), trains staff on operations of BAS to set equipment trends to monitor energy consumption and adjust accordingly. - (Essential)
- 10% - Responsible for preventative maintenance of HVAC equipment, assigns and schedules work to be completed by staff. Assigns Work Orders in the CMMS and confirms completion and close out by staff, creates reports promptly and accurately. - (Essential)
- 10% - Oversees operation of HVAC equipment in responsible manner and recommends purchasing of maintenance equipment and supplies as required to improve processes and efficiencies. - (Essential)
- 5% - Responsible for maintaining steam boilers, condensate pumps, steam traps and control valves, hydronic circulation pumps, hydronic system venting requirements, calibration of pneumatic thermostats, chiller operations and adjustments, and operations of JCI building automatic systems. - (Essential)
- 5% - Directs and/or assists in repairs of HVAC equipment with HVAC Mechanics and contractors. - (Essential)
- 5% - Evaluates refrigeration systems and troubleshoots problems, change-out refrigeration compressors as necessary. - (Essential)
