THE ROLE:

The Provisional Fellow in the Emergency Department is responsible for the provision and documentation of safe, effective and appropriate patient centre medical care in a team based environment. This position requires the participation on a 7 day a week/24hr roster, with an ability to work in charge of the department on night shift. 

DUTIES:

  • Senior Medical Officer in-charge of the department, including night shift.
  • Admitting Officer
  • Coordinate and oversee deployment of resources within the department in conjunction with the nurse- in-charge to ensure that patients are seen within a timely manner.
  • Notify the on-call ED consultant of staffing problems during the shift. Additional staff to be called in only on authorisation of ED consultant.
  • Communicate effectively with patients, carers and members of the multi-disciplinary team.

ABOUT YOU:

  • MBBS or equivalent, currently registered or eligible for registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Authority.
  • Fellowship of Australasian College for Emergency Medicine or suitable overseas specialist qualification in Emergency Medicine or final year of training towards fellowship
  • Demonstrated ability to provide high quality compassionate medical care as evidenced by recent practice experience in working congenially and collaboratively as both a leader and member of a multidisciplinary team, and as a provider of services that engender high levels of patient satisfaction and experience.
  • Experience working in a department with significant paediatric activity.
  • Experience in or knowledge of programs for improving the organisation and delivery of care in Emergency Medicine.
  • Demonstrated ability to actively seek out improvements to service delivery, initiating change and consulting with those affected by the changes; allocating resources and proactively managing potential conflicts.
  • Demonstrated capacity of maintaining knowledge of legal, regulatory, market and technological developments and anticipating the impact on business areas and plans accordingly.
