THE ROLE:

Calvary Mater Newcastle, known as “The Mater”, are seeking an experienced Gastroenterologist to join our team.  This position will provide clinical management and intervention for gastroenterology patients across the facility, which is the major cancer care centre for Hunter New England Local Health District.

The Department of General Medicine are seeking a Gastroenterologist with experience in high quality diagnostic and consultative specialty services in gastroenterology, including endoscopic services and virtual outreach clinics.  This role will complement our vibrant Gastroenterology team, working alongside General Medicine Physicians within the Department.

 

DUTIES:

Perform clinical services for inpatients admitted under the Gastroenterology Service and to participate in the bed allocation process and management of transfer of care and patient flow according to patient need and the Hospital’s requirements.

  • You will provide specialist consultation within your field, including provision of outpatient services.
  • Provide clinical leadership to junior colleagues by ensuring a high standard of patient care which conforms to best practice and is evidence based.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to equity of health care delivery. 

 

ABOUT YOU:

  • Primary Medical Degree registrable with Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) and Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (FRACP), with recognised qualifications in Gastroenterology and/or other equivalent specialist recognition as provided for in the NSW (Non-Declared) AHO Staff Specialist Agreement or the Health Insurance Act 1973.
  • Demonstrated current gastroenterology (including endoscopy) clinical practice of a high standard, with ability to adapt clinical practice in accordance with contemporary evidence based best practice.
  • Demonstrated capacity for clinical leadership, a commitment to undergraduate and post-graduate teaching in medicine, nursing and allied health and willingness to participate in clinical research.
  • Understanding of the principles of clinical governance to promote quality and safety in health care, with experience in and commitment to evidence based best practice.
  • A demonstrated understanding of transfer of care and patient flow principles and ability to practice these principles to meet the needs of the community and hospital.
  • Demonstrated oral, written and interpersonal communication skills, and the ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team, and proficiently in periods of high demand/activity
