About the role

Workplace Relations for Calvary primarily means:

  • Collaborating on enterprise agreement negotiations and implementation.
  • Advising on wages and entitlements under the Fair Work Act (and related legislation) and contract law.
  • Union relationships and alternative dispute resolution.
  • Project work including mergers and acquisitions.
  • Working on continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Policy development (with an industrial scope).

We also help our Employment Relations colleagues with overflow case management and litigation.

No two days are the same in the Calvary Workplace Relations Team!

The role is a full-time permanent position to join a team of 4 experienced WR professionals from a range of past careers. Our Team has one thing in common – we love to grow our knowledge and skills in employment law and we’re motivated to solve problems and help others within Calvary.

Of course, this role would suit an Employment Relations / Industrial Relations / Workplace Relations Advisor from a corporate team, trade union, or ER/IR advisory service. But we’d also love to hear from Senior Payroll Officers, Junior Lawyers, or People & Culture professionals who are wanting to build upon those fundamental skills in this specialist field.

This role is designed as a mid-level advisor/specialist role and not a Team Leader or Manager role.

We operate on a hybrid working model with Offices based in Sydney, Newcastle, Melbourne and Adelaide for those days you're in the office.

About you

You will be passionate about all aspects of Workplace Relations / Employment Relations / Industrial Relations and have a curious mind with a desire for opportunity!

Minimum 2 years’ dedicated ER/IR/WR advice (half of us are from ER/IR telephone advice service companies) or at least 4 years’ experience as a People & Culture Business Partner.

We will absolutely consider Senior Payroll Specialists with strong interpretation skills and exceptional MS Excel skills who want to learn how enterprise agreements are made and take on that work.

Essential Skills

  • Demonstrated experience in reading, interpreting and applying Fair Work Instruments such as Modern Awards and/or Enterprise Agreements.
  • Demonstrated experience in reading, interpreting and applying Australian employment-related laws (Fair Work Act, Long Service Leave Acts).
  • Demonstrated experience using MS Excel at an intermediate level to conduct audits and analysis of payroll and other employment data.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with a focus on a customer service approach – ‘That’ll do’ is not in our vocabulary.
  • Strong attention to detail – We do complex work, so this is key.
  • An inquisitive mind with research skills – We do not use artificial intelligence to learn the ‘why’.
  • An ideas person - We don’t believe in ‘That’s the way we’ve always done it’.
  • A self-starting personality – We find problems, ownership and resolve them.
  • Strong organisational skills - We’re busy but variety is what makes the job interesting.
  • Strong MS Office skills (MS Word, MS Powerpoint, MS Excel) – We always ensure a professional look.

The Salary Package for this role is $138,000 plus 12% superannuation plus a Charity Salary Packaging benefit of up to $6,000 extra cash in hand.
