Director of Pharmacy

About the role
Step into the senior leadership role within our Pharmacy and shape how care is delivered across Calvary Mater Newcastle. Our Pharmacy has two main functions – supply and clinical. It is responsible for supplying medications to all inpatients and outpatients. We also participate in all clinical trials involving medications at the hospital.
Our Pharmacists provide a clinical service to Calvary Mater Newcastle inpatients and outpatients. Specialty practice areas include Oncology, Haematology, Palliative Care and Antimicrobial Stewardship (AMS).
This is a temporary opportunity for an experienced hospital Pharmacist to provide leadership with overseeing dispensary and distribution services, compounding, procurement, clinical trials and formulary governance.
Interviews will be held on Friday 14 August. Applicants must be available to commence in this position by end of August/start of September 2026.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver best practice pharmacy services that support safe, high-quality patient care
- Lead, mentor and develop pharmacy leaders and teams, building a high-performing and engaged workforce.
- Drive governance, medication safety, quality improvement and compliance across specialised pharmacy services.
- Lead strategic planning, service innovation and operational excellence to strengthen pharmacy service delivery.
- Collaborate with clinical and executive leaders to deliver safe, innovative and patient-centred pharmacy services.
What you bring
- Registration as a Pharmacist with the Pharmacy Board of Australia (AHPRA).
- Extensive hospital pharmacy experience, including leadership and management responsibility.
- Demonstrated success leading clinical pharmacy services, workforce development and service improvement initiatives.
- A commitment to patient-centred care, medication safety, quality improvement and the advancement of clinical pharmacy practice.
- Experience leading and developing high-performing teams, fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration and continuous improvement.
- Excellent communication, stakeholder engagement and influencing skills, with a proven ability to build effective partnerships across multidisciplinary teams.
- A desire to join a team committed to the care of others in a mission based organisation
The Calvary Mater Newcastle is an Affiliated Health Organisation providing services to both public and private patients primarily from the Hunter New England area. Current employees of NSW Health can request to have various leave entitlement balances transferred to Calvary Mater Newcastle on commencement.
